Doing the christmas shopping today and there was not a carpark to be found. Eventually I found one but it required a reverse parallel park, no problem, Start reversing and steering and the steering starts to jolt and squeak. OK belt must be loose or need replacing soon I think. I go do the shopping and drive home. As Im driving in the driveway I hear a thump and one god almighty slapping sound and the steering goes ****ing heavy as.

So I presume the belt has given up the ghost and I slowly and very very heavily steer the car into the garage and have a look.

So now I have to spend the afternoon of my day off fixing this. It took me a good 10 minutes to get the belt off as the metal webbing had wound itself around the AC pulley and I found another part of the belt in the driveway. Lucky this didnt happen 2 minutes earlier in the 90 zone I was travelling in.....

I think I should go buy a lotto ticket.

Dont recall actually.

Funny thing is the carpark I was reversing into was out the front of Supercheap Auto.

Wish Id have checked the belt then and there instead of having to get the grandparents out to grab me a belt and drop it off....It'd be fixed by now, but since I didnt I am now playing the waiting game....

this happened to me, 4 hours after buying the car

It split down the centre, allowing a large chunk of belt to flap around in the bay, smashing the cam cover open and damaging the timing belt. Bloody miracle that it didnt snap that too.

It has happened (So I've heard on here) where the PS Belt has shredded and wrapt itself around the crank pulley jamming the crank causing the timing to skip.
So yeah, replace it!
(I have heard that on here a few times before...)

Had mine start disintegrating about 500m from home awhile back and just as I parked it let go, good thing my neighbour is a mechanic, had it fixed that day and only cost me a new belt, also replaced a aircon belt at the same time.
Reminds me I'm almost due for a timing belt change too!

hey well at least you cant complain that your car has the overassisted steering anymore, im sure it has a nice weighty feel to it now. lol

hmmm on that note, would it be possible to add a slightly larger pully on the PS pump? that may give the steering slightly less assistance. lol might get some power gains on the engine too! hahaha
