Sorry to hear dude, but did you get pics of the box and pieces all over the road?

Obvious question, when was the last time you checked to oil in it?
Maybe wrong here feel free to correct but low to no oil means overheated clutch and then blown gear sets.
Do you short shift alot?

Mitsu-rippy.....Haven't heard that one before...I like it :)

Get the GB rebuilt. One member got his rebuilt for like $1200? And that was with some parts strengthen Cant remember which parts though.

Sorry to hear mate, heard this happen a few times b4 in the old days (that being the sr20 pulsar days). Gear boxes are so complex lets hope it is a synco gone and everything else is ok......... sorry mate not likely  please let us all know the details so we can all learn? What was the oil in the gear box (i.e grade age brand etc) you had and how old was it in the gear box? Positive thought new gear box time? better ratios?

just what ever oil mitsubushi used on my 100k service. i think ill be getting the g/box from the wreckers and i might sell it to buy a magna that isnt a ticking time bomb.. cause as i know it will happen again i think i better just change the box and sell sell sell

What clutch did you have? Exedy organic HD clutch? You should be able to run this without any problems in a street car.

yeah i had a heavy duty ceramic , but a closer inspection shows that it might even be brass button, any who im just using the same pressure plate and changed the clutch plate to a exedy sports with new throw out bearing

put all back together with new clutch plate runs ok... just having a small prob where when the car is cold i find it hard to choose a gear. and sometimes when i give it a bit the car shakes a bit, ive had a look and just seems that the clutch is not fully releasing i have adjusted it to try and get some freeplay but i can only make it so its just driveable

Late reply sorry.

Brass button destroys FWD gearboxes.....

Sprung button still isnt easy on the gearbox, but you can actually somewhat retain driveability without chirping each time you take off from the lights.

+1

I still cant see the obsession with people and over the top clutches, unless your trying to force huge power through it or have a dog engagement box with straight cut gears and no synco, big clutches WILL destroy gearboxes.

Look at Subarus for example, with retaining the factory clutch you can get 400,000+ k's out of a standard box in a WRX, however once you put a HD in watch it spit 2nd gear through the oil pan in the matter of days. Some clutch slip is good.

i got the dreaded clutch stink and soft pedal about 100000 km ago,
i keep the g/box oil changed at every service and its still holding in there.
216000 kms on the original clutch ,and im pretty rough with the solara, keep oil FRESH

brass button clutches come in either sprung or unsprung centres... i very much doubt he had an unsprung brass button in his magna...

yeh a brass button clutch will hook up very hard (even sprung centre)...and if you dont drive the car with a bit of respect it will end up breaking something.... in evo's first to go is the transfer case (usually)... in a magna a gearbox failure doesnt suprise me..

brass button in a magna is massive overkill... infact exedy dont list a brass button for a magna .. so if you had a brass button in your magna it was actually an evo clutch (they do fit in magnas yes)...

magnas dont need massive clutches... look at tzaboys car.. he has a cushioned button clutch (different again to the above) and it works extremelly well in his car...

Now you know why Magnas don't come with race ready clutches standard from the factory! LOL
