2 x Type R 12" with enclosure + wiring + install + mono amplifier.
Is it worth $1500
Which amplifier?
It might be an ok deal, just remember, cheapest rarely means best....and by that I mean the install itself.

dont pay for an install, just get the equipment and one of us WA guys will help you out
you end up paying so much for a crappy shop install

Sounds like a typical Alpine system.

You might just want to wait a few weeks before buying audio stuff! The new 2009 stuff will be coming out after christmas and the shops will have to get rid of all the 2008 gear. I remember going into jbhifi after last christmas and being suprised at the big '1/2 price of all car audio' stickers....
Im also wanting an alpine system (component fronts and rears) but im gonna wait til after chrissy.....

I wouldnt be running a pair of 12" Type R's off a V power....Guessing its the MRP-M1000? You want a very minimum of 600wrms per sub, to make them really pump...

Been awhile since i last browsed the Alpine catalogue, if thats the price written in the catalogue usually, you can get 200-300 below it if you know how to haggle.

prtty sure pdx are a betta quality amp but saying that i have 1000watt v12 running my two type s subs and in their day they were bout the same quality as your type rs you are looking at because their were no type x
in my opinion try to get a couple of hundred off the type x deal in the catalogue
doesnt really work that way :P type-x have barely changed mechanically, nor have the type-R, type-x is just kicked up a whole new notch
Personally i would never in my lifetime pay $1500 for that system. but thats just me.

'awesome rubbers' on a sub does not make it a great sub.

Any of the Type S subs are nowhere within being close to quality or output of the Type R's. Type S is and always will be Type S. Before they had Type-X there was DDDrive.

VR and ZR, damn those ZR's went off. Hard to find these days.
personally if you were after a hard hit i'd just go a single 12" and spend the money where it matters. if you would og second hand, you can pick up some devastating gear quite cheap, but if not just go for a Soundstream T4 or something, for the price they are hurter subs, but youll still be looking at above the same amount of power to feed it as the 2 R's. or go 15", 15's are fun.
If he's still got any left, a mate of mine recently had an SPL Suzuki Carry Van with 4 T4 15's in it + a spare, and after he took a corner a little too sharply and rolled it due to the slightly increased center of gravity, he was selling all of his gear. if he still has any, he was letting the T4's go for $250 each.

Speak to a professional and get the results you are after. Alpine is often an easy place to start but do some digging and you will find much better gear ( speaker wise ). Alpines sources and amps are quite good.

Technically 3 if we include full range speakers. And there are many many subs, amps etc that are a LOT LOT better than Alpine, this coming from someone who swears by alpine Decks/source units...
But as a entry level setup, I agree Type S kick ass...

definetly type rs and type x are way beyond what i have yes but it all depends on how you have them set up
for instance most people love high spl, thats when type r and type x come into play,
mine are for me great for all round then if i wan2 can go very loud its a great all round
so yeah just dug my self a big hole so
some times i wonder why they have 3 different series of speakers. but ull alway get ya moneys worth i suppose

nothing wrong with the type s splits
had them in my car for acouple of years
they went hard and sounded great, they are a good speaker for the price
but i sold them however to a forum member to make way for my eclipse splits
the eclipse splits are one of the best splits i have ever listen too

Yep, and the s's now sit on the shelf in the shed gathering dust...
Anyways, if you want to hear "real" speakers DLS Iridum, or Nobelium's will cost you 4 digits but are a damn fine speaker.
type-x arent really the loudest speaker around. could make an R go louder with more ease.
