Looking at eBay, Magna with 168,000 Km on the clock and a 2.4L auto drivetrain.
How is this combination for power and fuel consumption, and how long does the 2.4L engine last?
In comparison, a 2.6L is good to 220,000 and a 3.0 or 3.5 seem to be ok up to 350,000 if not thrashed and has regular oil changes and service. How does the 2.4L match up to that?

Not worth the iron its made from.
Go for a 3.5L, marginally worse fuel economy with more power and torque.

The 2.4 sucks. You will regret it. Get a 3.5L like Lucifer said, cheap as chips these days, and as long as you take care of the motor it will last you long time.

Waste of money then? I will keep looking!
Does anyone have anything good to say about the 2.4L engine then?

I already have a paperweight - a mangled piston that jumped out of the side of the block on a GH sigma! LOL

Big car, small motor, high fuel consumption and no power.
Nope...nothing good to report!
Go for a 3 or 3.5 manual.

I just traded ours in on a TJ VRX,car performed well on the open road, held cruising speed etc.
BUT in typical mitsu form we got the underpowered version of the engine.
I had a GALANT/380 drive car in the states,it was a 2.4,drove like it a V6 and was good on fuel.
A 3.0 magna with a good flowing muffler would be as good on fuel or better and be more enjoyable to drive.
I feel that our SPORTS was comparative and maybe a bit more economical.

The fuel economy is excellent, Engine runs well at 222,555 and still good.
If you want speed, then forget about 2.4L
If you want to know stock performace how much it can go on contryside? 750km+ on 91-ron (800km achieveable)
My car is LPG converted.
Any good? Is the best car I bought in years. If you are just looking to turbo it etc, is not worth the effort. I find this car easy to maintain.
But like all, I would go for at least a TJ now.

Thanks for all the info! Not a performance engine then, but it lasts ok.
Nexus - thanks for the objective info.
