Hey guys,

Front bars-

VRX, JVM, and Ralliart - How far do each of them sit below the tow hooks, to be legal height there must be atleast 10cm clearance from the lowest point to the ground (in my case towhooks).

So, how low to each of these bars sit below the took hooks?

My current clearance is 13cm from the tow hooks. The bar must not exceed 3cm lower.

Cheers,
Dean

Yep, the hooks are 13cm from the ground. So the bar adds an extra 2.5cm for a VRX bar? Leaving it 5mm above legal?

I daresay they wont get you if the car is around 10mm each way of the lowest point, most cops ive seen check the height of the car is with a coke can.

Anyways cops have a lot more to get you on other then the height of your car. He had his licence the other day and was clear as well, i smell caught doing triple digits in a double digit zone.

No driving till march for me :( 130 on the way to canberra, highway cop pulls out of nowhere and nabs me - been on reds for 15 months (I didn't have time to do the greens test :()

Anyways, reason I ask is I'm interested in upgrading the front bar along with my TL skirts, TL rear bar, and TJ boot lid. I want to try and keep height legal - Tint doesnt matter, its cheap to remove and cheap to retint (around $60).

Not talking tint, Rims, HID's (yes they really frown on these) Parabolics etc.

Are you changing the front bar? Isn't it gunna be a bit odd with TL sides and rear and a TH front?

i did the coke can test on it when i installed the springs, it was all fine until i got to the far edge of the front bar cover where it drops 1cm or so.

Why you so concerned about being EXACTLY legal...
Few mm's here and there they wont give a stuff
Besides I'd just be going for the sexyness, screw how low it is.
Thats me though

Insurance. They wont cover anything under 100mm. If I'm paying 130/month to insure it, I want it to be valid.

the only way having a lowered car will affect your insuranc is if lowering your car to that point was the cause of the accident. i had my magna pretty low. the sideskirts were at 90mm and insurance never said anything when i made a claim

and its the lowest point of the car so if your exhaust is lower then the skirts of front bar thats what you will be pulled up on (i think)

Yea, I got lows on back SLs on front - so my lowest point is tow hooks atm (will be the same when I upgrade)

If you plan on running those 2 batteries in the boot aswell as a Capacitor ASWELL as HID's 10mm ground clearance is the least of your legal worries :P

He is with aami and unless he has it on his cover that it has aftermarket suspension he is no longer covered, goes for all mods and being that he doesnt have it cert'ed that makes him liable and aami wont pay out a claim

Everything is on the policy except for the HIDs. I switched because NRMA bumped it by 30/month when I declared mods!

Are you going for a complete bodykit or just the front bar? The front of my sideskirt is the lowest point on my car as far as I'm aware (although the entire sideskirt sits lower than the front bar).

I'll take some photos in the morning...

The tow hook is lower than the front part of the bumper. At a guesstimate, the tow hook is probably a similar height/maybe a fraction higher than the back of the front bumper. Like ih8hsv said, the bumper gets lower as you head towards the wheel.

Bugger it, I'm feeling generous - must be because I'm nearly ready to go out :P

Front bumper vs side skirt. The coke can doesn't fit below any part of the side skirt, yet it *just* fits underneath the front bumper.

Remember - a coke can is 13cm.

Hope it helps :)

Well ****, if those are lows there is NO CHANCE! of clearing 100mm on superlows! Cheers dude. I was going to go for a VRX kit, but after a discussion with the gf ive decided the kms are getting too high for my liking and trading up to a TL VRX - Wondering if I can keep my existing springs, based on the above it would be a no for insurance purposes (the TL will be staying legal).

Dean the height of your car is the last thing you should really be worrying about it, now every cop encounter ive had, unless you have the car extremely dumped on its **** you will be fine. I have lower springs then your SL/L combo, and havent had an issue yet, and i have mudflaps!

Anyways if they want to book you for there height, they will do it on the spot or tell you to go to Botany and you want to hope to god you dont ever get sent there.
