Well basically I want to put some wheels on my verada... but the hub is just too wide.
Anyone know if the studs can take the load if I shaved down the hub? Or is this a very bad idea? :P

Hub? Do you mean the part that goes in the spigot hole in the rim?

Just machine the rim's spigot hole down or something, you won't run the risk of a wheel snapping off then.

The OP is very hard to tell what you are on about.

If you are referring to the centre hole in the new wheels being too small to fit over the hub on your car, you could get them enlarged to the same size as the ones on your wheels so they then they still support the wheel.

If you are talking about the actual hub itself being too large diameter (ie outside diameter on the main hub / flange) then NO you can not touch this as the rotors go on over the main hub and if you machine them, you will infact be machining the "hats" on the rotors and they WILL fail

Perhaps a couple of pics of what you intend to do??

get some 3-5mm slip on spacers, or 20mm bolt on spacers

Thats the part Im talking of... I would have machined the inside of the rim as I have done before, but there is just too much to shave off :S I got some really nice rims... Had the rears on and it looked shpick as! Hurt to see the fronts didnt fit :P Then to top it off the stud started spinning and had to chisel the nut off. Oh fun times :P

Bolt on spacers cost a freakin fortune and regular spacers just arent thick enough :(

And both are illegal

I wasnt going for a legal option... :D If you knew how good these rims looked, youd all be compelled to make this work for me somehow :P

legal and safe are good but as long as its safe, its usually good enough for me

Bolt on spacers in 20-22mm can be had for 180bucks these days. they are a lot safer then slip ons. But slips ons are very unlikely to cause any dramas if they are under 4mm othersise you dont get enough thread into the nuts

each to there own.

I would love the whole package... but it cant be had sadly :(
Bolt on spaces would be the way to go. Maybe I can get someone at the head repair shop to make some up for me?
Where would I find them otherwise?
How do they work exactly?

well how they work is the bolt on ones, use coutersuck nuts. You basically bolt on the new hub with 5 studs in it, and the old studs are thenuse to attach the new one to it. This is why bolt ons need to be so think, (20-22mm) so the stock lugs dont protrude from them. Slip ons any wider then 5 mm will cause issues as you use the stock lugs, and the slip on item eats up some of the thread used to torque the wheels down. You can get 10 and 15mm slip ons but you need afttermarket studs put in your hubs (way to much effort) and it sounds like you only need a tiny bit more clearance.

How big do you need them..? I got 10mm front spacers on mine but thats only to make the wheels clear the Brembos..?

10mm is a rather large spacer. I have also fitted 10mm longer studs and had to widen the cars to keep wheels under.

You can get spacers made to any size you like. I got mine made( Mag Wheel Repair Shop). I think it was about $50 each. I had them made so the suit the wheel on the hub. it all blends in nicely.:)
