I've done a search and found a few threads that say yes it's possible, no it's not possible, too expensive, doesn't work 100% ect. but i need a definitive answer.
I got hold of a tippy selector, i have a 99th 3.5l auto, can i make it work? what will i need?
I noticed the wiring loom from the verada the tippy selector came from had an extra plug, where does this run to? where is the ecu for the tranny? i presume i need the tippy one. do i need the dash from a tippy or is the gear display on a 4sp tippy the same as a 4sp auto, i know the 5sp one is different. ect ect. any help will be appriciated.

tippy has a different display on the cluster. It has P R N D like normal and then offset 1 2 3 4. I think best bet would be a cluster, ECU (TCU ?) and BEM from a TH sports.

Ah, i now have found a thread with a bit more info, seems more effort than it's worth...

Yeah I looked into it a while ago, by the time you replace the shifter, ecu, bem, ignition, keys, locks etc (all of that I believe needs replacing to match the new ecu) you might as well have bought a new car.

Locks and keys do not need replacing. They just need recoding.

And it can change gears quicker than you in your manual can and will hold them up to redline just like an auto, i don't understand the obsession with manual gearbox's so much more work with the clutch and for what??? the ability to rev it before you take off???

besides, he might only have an auto license
iv only got auto (none of my family drive manual so i wouldnt have been able to learn much, he could have the same reasoning, i know a few people like that)

Or you could throw in an Uber gearbox like that dude who put the audi one in. Prepare to give away your children though..

I saw no proof of that, nor do I think did he ever post up any proof of it either, could all be hogwash for we know.
Tippy will change quicker, but will still soak up more power through the drivetrain then a manual.
Newer cars like trav said the gearboxes are mad, but in older cars like these all autos are meh...not so good for power absorption.

actually, they absorb power superbly!! lol
for all the hassle, auto to tiptronic is not worth it. at best my s/c'ed fwd tippy was the same speed on the track as Cummins' NA manual with about 20 less kw atw. there are some advantages to auto 'boxes, but in the 3rd gens they are far outweighed by the inability to choose gears (even in tippy form it won't down shift until you're below a certain speed) and the amazing amount of power you lose through the torque converter.

I've got the selector, bem and tcl computers, could get the ecu easily enough too. the only thing stopping me is the wiring loom changeover, way more hassle than it's worth and i can't have the car off the road for long as it's our main family car.
I wanted the tippy just for precision, when changing the slider selector it's easy to accidentaly push it past more than one gear, especially when driving for fun on a less than perfect road.
I wouldn't have thought the looms would be any different between auto models?

there's an extra plug to the shifter, and from what i've read, the tranny computer is in the ecu, which has different plugs...

In NSW only P1 are restricted to auto or manual, after P2+ there are no restrictions. I need to learn manual within the next 6 months somehow :-/
