Hi Everyone,

I'm just wondering is it difficult to install car audio equipment yourself? I own a 99 KH Verada, but have just purchased a new Pioneer single DIN tuner and a sony 4ch amp. I also bought the necessary wiring and a splitter for the RCA? outputs. I bought this from Stratfield Car Radio in Parramatta, Sydney but they want to charge me $150 odd dollars to install it. I would much rather use this towards some better front component speakers. Also, they sold me a 2 yr warranty for an additional $39 but i'm thinking I should get this refunded. Are extended warranties necessary?

Can anyone offer me advice on how to install it? Or am i better off letting someone else do it? I do know a little bit about the cabling so if it isn't a difficult job, I could have a go at it myself.

Thanks all.

the best thing to do - try and find a local member of AMC that has done one or two stereos to give you a hand - this way - they are doing it for you and will do a good job and then you will be learning what to do for future stereos in different cars.

If you were in Perth - i would have helped you out - i seem to be doing 4 or 5 stereos a month these days!!!

Oh - and anybody in his area willing to help him out - my standard charging rate is a carton ;) hahah

Where abouts do you live mate? I am formerly from penrith and i am back there most weekends. (I am in the ACT atm.. long story.. ) I installed all the speakers in my beast and i am getting used to taking door trims and centre consoles apart. I could install everything for you with no hassles except the headunit.. i have only done mine and i am not too confident with them yet..

Anyways to answer you question, $150 is a bit steep. But most the time the offer a so called life time warranty on installation, meaning that if the cables stuff up or whatever they will replace that. You had better clarify, but strathfield are pretty notorious around penrith.

Thanks guys for the response.

Fortunately a neighbour of my parents installed it all for me and all for a case of beer....definately worth it. Looks very clean as well. He's an installer of cruise control and sat nav systems so i figured he had a good idea of what to do.

The only problem I have is that to fade the speakers, i have to do it through the balance control...can't explain that one. Also have no left to right adjustment but that's no biggie. He thinks it may have something to do with the splitters. The head unit only had two RCA outs, so i used splitters to make it four so that it would work with the amp It's still an amazingly crisp sound though.

Cheers.

Sounds like the splitters are in the wrong holes dude.

yeah - wrong holes i agree with FHRX - but remember you should only be able to fade left to right when using splitters - not front to rear
