Does anyone remember what spark plug Sprintex recommends for the 3rd Gen blower?
I remember reading somewhere it was a 0.6mm gap Iridium spark plug?
Am i right or wrong?

shouldnt matter what plug you use as long as the gap is correct.

.6mm? **** thats tiny
do magnas have a weakish ignition system? most cars that come boosted stock usually run 0.8mm and there non-turbo equivelants run 1.1mm on the same igntion system.
Is it harder to change plags on the blown engines? if so i can understand the use of good plugs, but at the same tie, servicing intervals would be smaller, so really for a 25buck set of coppers is it worth the iridiums?

From what I understand, to change the plugs on a sprintex blown magna you need to pull the blower off and they are under something else in there somewhere. Don't quote me though, never done it myself :P

same with all the (at least) 3.5L V6, have to lift the manifold, to change the rear plugs, have a look under your manifold on the rocker cover, and you will see why, there is NO space to get the plugs in our out.
i understand the spintex blower sort of 'replaces'the stock inlet manifold, so itl need to come off to get at the plugs.
its also why your rear bank of plugs, are long life - 100ooo km and get done when you get timing belts done.

EDIT - as for Mohits question, im not help on that one sorry!
I thought it was the manifold, I remember my mechanic telling me off for buying a magna because he had to rip it apart just to change the plugs :P

I'd think that a colder plug than normal would be best for a supercharged engine - quick dissipation of heat to avoid preignition. The NGK site lists the BKR6E-11 plug (1 step colder) as standard for the Ralliart, whilst the BKR5E-11 is standard for other 6G74 engines. The BKR6E-11 has a smaller amount of exposed insulator at the end of the plug.

Sprintex specify a colder step plug to be used with their S/C
Not sure if it's a 0.6 or 0.8 mm gap one
The front bank plugs can be changed without any issues
But to change the rear bank plugs would require the removel of the S/C
Since my S/C is off i might as well get newer plugs for it before it's bolted back on
If i can find where i kept the plugs that were removed when the S/C came off a few weeks ago i should be alright

Good to see noone has a clue about what plug the Sprintex needs, they take a IRIWAY7 Or a BKR7EIX You can get them from any auto shop from 14-20 each, make sure you dont get the ones with -11 after the part no, as they are the wrong gap.

Did some searching online and came across this link:
http://www.performancelub.com/NGK%20pricelist.htm
They sell the BKR7EIX for $12.95 each
But that page lists it as a 0.6mm gap, not 0.8mm as stated in this thread
Very confusion

NGK list them as 0.8mm, thats directly from them, worse case i can rip out one of my front plugs tomorrow and measure if you want to triple check?

Ok i've been doing a bit more digging around on the net and here are my findings:
NGK Iridium IX
Part number: BKR7EIX
Gap: 0.6mm
Heat range: 7
Average price: $13 each
NGK Iriway 7
Part number: unknown
Gap: 0.8mm
Heat range: 7
Average price: $24 each
Just found the plugs that were removed along with the S/C from my car in the garage
They are the NGK Iriway 7
If i went for the Iridium IX would a 0.2mm gap make that much of a difference?

Okay so the NGK BKR7EIX plugs do have a 0.8mm gap (confirmed by magna00 and Performance Lub (www.performancelub.com)) :)
Just bought 6 NGK Iridium IX (BKR7EIX) plugs from Performance Lub for $90.20 including postage
Much better than paying up to $150 for similar plugs in the shops

Good to see you got a good price as well,
But yeah every ngk plug is 0.8mm unless otherwise it states on the end of the part no

It shouldn't take a mechanic more than 25 minutes to replace the rear spark plugs on a V6 3rd gen magna.

bit of a thread mine, but I just had Harold @ performancelub.com send me the correct spark plugs overnight!
at $14 each, that's about 1/2 price over anyone in town and no one had them in stock anyway.
on a related note, does anyone know what sort of effects I might expect from running BKR5EIX-11's in a Sprintex'd 6G74? that's what the numpties put in my engine!!!
cheers,

That plug has a larger gap than the one required for the Sprintex setup so I think you'd get a miss at higher engine speeds worst case.

my tuner told me it wasn't missing. I was concerned about the plugs, but not for that reason.
I have become more careful about who I let work on my car. the list of broken, incorrect and dodgy stuff on my engine is amazing. needless to say, those people won't be touching my car ever again.

Also being 2 steps hotter plug 5 vs 7 see below.

This US sparkplug site is the best I've seen with the best and most complete technical guides and glossary etc including specific info and pictures etc of every one of thousands of brands and plug types. They stocks/sell/deliver international as well.
Just scroll down this page and check out the titled links on the LHS

thread mine!!!
Would these plugs be appropriate for a blown 3L? Stock plugs were 90% fine, however after fitting Bosch Platinum Fusion FGR7DQ1 it barely even fires. Is there any plugs that wont need regapping? I know Brads running stock ones but had NGKs gapped to 0.9mm.

the temp range should be right... depending on intake temps and intercooling (if any) you should drop the temperature of the plugs from the standard 5 to at least 7.
I can't find any info on that plug on the Bosch site. the numpties that rebuilt my engine put 1.1mm gap plugs in and it ran fine. I wouldn't recommend running that gap, but I didn't have any problems with it. look for 0.8mm gap plug if you're swapping them out.

Thanks mate :) Will look for something within heat range 7. I'm currently running a FMIC so hopefully that wont affect things too much...

Picked up my plugs today. Heat range ~ 7, gap 0.8mm but theyre platinum. Will this make an overall difference? As far as I knew Iridium had slightly better ignition but thats it...

iridium is the harder of the two metals. it'll last a bit longer than platinum, but I'm not sure by how much.
both are suitable.
