Hey guys, just got me a brand new one of these from autobarns 20% off the store sale for 240 bucks
http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/schedaProdotto_en.asp?id=5&idcat=42&idprod=17&numid=3&numcat=4&numprod=4

Just wondering if you guys can recommend an amp for it, I don't want to go overboard, but I don't want to get a pos, sortof midrange, like the sub I guess.

Also, I'm going to run it in one of Bigs' 32L fiberglass boxes.

Thanks guys!
Merry Christmas.

PS. I'm thinking I might not amp the speakers until later, so I don't need it to do speakers+sub.

How much can you spend?

Now unless im reading things wrong - the sub is a single 4ohm voice coil. Needs 350wrms to perform at its best.

Hmm I'm not entirely sure yet, because I don't actually know how much they go to/from.
Also, I don't know about amps (brands/models), I sorta know RMS etc. but not quite sure.
If I put a 350wrms amp through it, does that mean it'll run fine, and it won't blow it up or do any damage (except from abuse of course).

Yeah, I'd be happy to have a look myself, but I have no idea about brands of amps, and what's quality, and what's value for money, etc.

Thanks again.

That amp only puts out 200wrms @ 4ohm. Not really suited for this sub.

where did you read the part about it being a single coil sub??

if this is true then you'll need a amp with a minimum of 350watts rms at 4ohms
make sure you buy a amp that has a higher rms output then the sub, will be better if you were to upgrade down the track but most of all so you dont over work the amp (so your gains arent on max all the time)

Something like this:

http://www.ryda.com.au/Clarion-DPX1851-Mono-Block-Car-Amplifier-p/dpx1851.htm

or

http://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GTO6011&Show=TechSpecs

or

http://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GMD8400M&Show=TechSpecs (little underpowered)

I'de spend around $300-$400 for a good sub amp. You need it to proved 350-400wrms @ 4ohm.

That will allow the sub to run at its peak, and shouldnt cause damage unless you're a bit silly with the volume/or gains on the amp.

Dont add bass boost when tuning unless you know its safe (no more than 3dB).

From the Hertz website - it only mentions 'voice coil' and nowhere in the tech specs does it have 'dual' written.

I could be wrong, but they just dont say if its a dual voice coil, and going off the specs, I dont think it is.

Niice.. I like the look of that JBL amp,
If that'll run it fine I think I'll get that, unless of course someone knows of better for less ;).
I'll probably have to get someone to tune it too, as I have nfi, unless it's easy to learn.

Surely enough, I'll have more questions in the weeks to come, but I'm sure you great people will be able to help me :).
Cheers guys

EDIT: Actually, that clarion looks even better.. I'll get that if I can get it for around that at a retail store.

Crap I forgot.. If anyones reading, can you tell me if I can run the sub from my current hu, it doesn't have "sub RCA out" but has RCA out, they're already run to my boot.

is it the ES-300 of ES-300D
the 300 is a single 4 ohm and the 300D is dual 4
if its only the single 4 then it would probably be better to get a 2 channel amplifier ( or 4 channel and just bridge the rears)as you would be getting the most out of the amp. this also leaves room for when you upgrade to 2 subs as you can use the 4 channel for your fronts and rears etc. as for brand there are tons out there but being not your regular sony pioneer sub (as in something decent) i would personally go for something nicer (ex. alpine audison hertz focal etc)

I was looking at the audison/hertz amps, but Geez they're sxpensive.
Whats the difference between them and.. say a sony amp that puts out the same power (rms)?
Just so I know what I'm spending the extra cash on.
Also again, if anyone knows if I can run the sub off my current headunit, it doesn't have a dedicated sub output, I'm guessing I can just use normal RCA and the filter on the amp will get rid of all the crap it doesn't need right?

Cheers!

unless you plan on beefing up the subwoofer fire power later down the track, get yourself a 2 channel amp to run it.

roll on down to Gaycar and get a Response 2x150, price vs performance they are solid contenders.

Hmm, I was thinking about it.. Would a better amp give a substantial increase in performance on this sub, or will the jaycar do just fine?

Probably gonna get a 4x100 for my speakers when the time comes too.

if you want tog et a 4x100 for your speakers, then dont bother with the 2x150, just use 2 channels off the 4x100 for the sub, and the other 2 for front speakers.

You would have to be fairly clinical to pick on the quality different between 1 amp and another in the system at hand.

You pay for a lot of things. Whether or not they are relivant to you is a different story.

And.. I can't afford a ferrari.. so I might go for the JBL? Is that a decent compromise do you think? Somewhere inbetween.

TBH I have no idea, so, does anyone know if the JBL amps are of good build quality and have good features/run well.

Thanks again

JBL amp will be fine.

With amps, its like trying to get that last bit of HP out of a car, its exponential. The difference between the mid-range amps/audio gear, and top of the range is seperated by a huge jump in price, for not much more gain.

In my next set up, yes I will be going hertz/audison/vibe or similar brands, but thats only cause I waste money on car audio gear lol
