I was driving along tonight when the sound out of the front splits and rear 6x9s suddenly stopped working. Sub was still working fine. I thought that maybe it was the amp that was running the splits, but the 6x9s were never connected upto the amp. The 6x9s remain plugged into the HU. Does this sound like something wrong with the head unit?
I'de say head unit.
Unless by some freak chance you're 6x9's crapped themselves AND your amp stopped working.......

lol I guess I'll get it checked out. HOpefully it is under warranty. I only got it about 12-13 months ago. I'll be f'ing ****ty if it only had a 12 month warranty.
EDIT: It is a JVC KD-DV7305 and I think the bastard does only come with a 12 month warranty. OMG I will be pissed if it died so close to the warranty period. If it does, then I'll never buy JVC again.

I am starting to wonder if it is the amp. Maybe the installer did a better job then I thought and the rear 6x9s are attached to the amp and not the HU. I see none of the usual lights active on the amp and what I think is the same type of wiring that goes to the rear speakers. I have a Response AA0426 from Jaycar and I cannot seem to find out how much warranty it has. All its internal fuses are intact so I think it might be a bigger issue.
How many speaker connections are there off your amp? If the 6x9"s are connected too your going to see 4 pairs of speaker wiring coming from the amp, presuming your sub is on another separate amp.
The response model you've given is for the 4x100w response yeah? You'll have to tell us looking at the wiring if the amp is powering the fronts + sub or fronts + rear.

I have a second amp dedicated to the sub. There are 4 pairs of wires so I am pretty positive that front and rear speakers are running off the above mentioned amp. Especially since front and rears both stopped working at the same time. I checked the 3 fuses on the amp itself, as well as the other fuse thingy (Sorry forget the names of this stuff!) that protects the car battery/electronics and all are intact.
And yes, it is 4x100w.

Sure it didnt overheat and blow a cap? ive had that before on a previous response amp.

How do I check that? And I guess it is possible, but unlikely unless something else went wrong because it was at night time and the car had only been on for about 10 minutes and it has been kept in a shed. Temps around here have been mid 20s. It has suffered much worse then that.
Also, not sure how relevent it is, but it was on a pretty low volume, then a good song came on so I turned it up and that is when the sound stopped. And before anyone asks, the volume was around 15 on the JVC HU (When LOUD is around 30) and I was turning it upto 20-25 or so, so it isn't like I was really cranking it at the time.

by that do u mean u checked the fuse in the power cable? have u got a volt meter or what ever there called or those pen things that light up if theres power? to see if power is getting to the amp. Maybe somehow the remote/trigger wire got cut or came out, hense not turning the amp on. I would 1st see if the amp is getting power, if it is then id turn the car on and see if the 12V trigger wire is getting a signal. If both of these are working and you have checked all the fuses, id say ur amp shat iself.

if your main fuse went (the one in your engine bay) then none of the amps would work
but you'll need a big bang to blow them
thinking it might be a loose wire somewhere, bad/loose ground or the amps carked it
but just go over all the wiring, something might have just come loose :)

ohh just re-read over this thread... didnt realise he was running two amps.

Just check the earth to the amp mate, if he has bolted the earth down to the chassis it might of simply undone. Check that.
Also, like mentioned, check your power line and make sure the remote wire is still in the amp, if the remote wire has fallen out the amp will not turn on!

Don't worry you could have been right, some people run dual power cable for multipule amps.
Obviously the problem seems to be located around the amp. Make sure the amp is getting power first - i.e. the light comes on like normal. If not check that the power cable is ok, the fuses on the amp are fine, the ground is secure.
If the light goes on check the RCA cables.
If you can, plug the jaycar into the same power cables as your sub amp. That will quickly tell you if its the amp.

Weird thing happened today. I got in the car to goto the shops and for ****s and giggles I checked it just in case ... and it worked. So what the hell does that mean? lol

Intermittent problems are a bastard to fix.

Does it make it less likely that the amp itself is screwed?
Not really.
Look it can be something as simple as a loose connection.
Could also be poor quality soldering on the PCB.
Could be a poor quality earth.
Could be a dodgy fuse.
Could be RCA output on the deck is falling apart (from poor quality soldering from manufacturer)
Could be a broken/deteriorated RCA lead.
Corrosion on the RCA contacts.
RCA circuit on way out on the H/U due to a poor quality earth causing the amp to attempt to earth through the RCA's.

More than likely it's a bad earth. Re-do that and it shouldn't have a problem. If it does, you know it's not the Earth ( so long as you do it properly!! )
