Is this at all possible? My brother has a 1st gen which he is to get rid of very soon and if it is easily possible to put a 1st gen manual box into my 2nd gen then I would seriously consider putting some money into getting it reco-ed for my car. I'm not looking for any performance gains from my magna so that's not an issue. Is it at all possible?

First and Second Gen Magna's share the same drivetrain orientation (engine on passenger side, crankshaft rotates toward the firewall, gearbox reverses the direction). It's only the Third Gen onwards, including the 380, that uses the updated engine orientation (engine on driver side, crankshaft rotates toward the radiator, gearbox doesn't reverse the direction).

It is for the 4 cyl yes. I've resigned myself to the fact that a V6 conversion is going to be a little too costly so I'm not goin near that. As I menioned earlier I can get this gearbox for really cheap and my uncles are mechanics so any worktime will be cheap. As such, if this is at all possible then it is a cheap option for me to have a manual gearbox which I would love to have. Any more opinions/confirmations?

I dont know much about the ratios or whatknot, But its bolting up to the same motor, it should be fine...

The auto's while they will bolt up are different, the manuals I would assume would be the same case, similar enough to bolt up but I am pretty sure the mounting point for the end mount is different as are the drive shafts.
As I have never tried I could be wrong.

Thanks guys, I haven't actually asked my uncles yet so they may have the answer. However, it's a rather different idea so they may have no more of an idea than you guys. In any case I'll continue to investigate and will get back to you. If anyone has any other comments please feel free to add to this, otherwise, cheers.

If its cheap, take it! Cant lose out, just make sure you get everything, clutch master cyl, all hyd. lines, clutch pedal etc. (if possible)

Not sure what you mean but I'll check with my uncles as to whether my brother's car is one of those.
TuffTR, 'cos it's my brother's he's likely to not really charge me for it 'cos he doesn't think he'll get much for the car as a whole. As such, it'll sit in my Dad's yard and I'll be able to take absolutely everything from it.
Not sure if it helps at all but my brother's 1st gen also happens to be EFI rather than carby.

Remember you will then need clutch pedal and bracket, master cyl, slave syl, lines, shift cables and gear stick all of which are different in the 2nd gen
Had a look today at the wreckers also, the first gen TP box while similar has a few small differences to the TS one I compared it to so again do not like your chances
