I've started to mod a executive grille for a TJ magna.
I have removed the centre pieces and have smoothed out any hard to reach places so far but need more sanding and smoothing before i can get any paint on it.
I have noticed there is only 2 spots that have to be plastic welded to make it look all smooth but no problem to do at all.
The grille is still pretty rigid with the centres being cut out and doesnt seem to be flimsy in any way.
I am doing it in steps and will post pics as i go but gotta get back to work till i can get it in primer then paint.
I've used a small hack saw blade for heavy plastics and a dremel kit to cut it up so far.
Heres a pic!

so from there is it a matter of getting a th bonnet? it would be great to have a tj bonnet and a th lying around, you could swap them out quite easily!

Ah ok, i thought he was trying to remove the part from the bonnet where the mitsi logo sits to go with the th style 'letterbox' rather than the TJ bonnet extention over the front grille.
Looks great in the pic though!

yeah, you could always make a TH grille and get a TH bonnet as well as make the TJ grille, then you could interchange
but probably not worth it in the long run, depends what you like
im a fan of the TJ letterboxes depending on the overall running style of the car is

I'll be returning back to work soon so it will be all final finishing from here on but also have to wait on getting mesh for it.
Not easy but will turn up with something soon,i was looking for plastic mesh so it could easily be welded to the frame but not alot of that plastic mesh lying around unless i buy a grille that has it and convert it over.

Black mesh please! All the previous ones have been full of fail using ricey silver/chrome mesh. I'd like to see somebody do it properly... Ralliart style.

That's the plan! Silver where the blue is, gloss black where the grey is, and black mesh on the back, should look pretty good.

What mesh are you going to use? I've been meaning to DIY a Ralliart grille this holiday but I haven't found any mesh I've liked.
I'd paint the grey bit silver though, just to make it more Ralliart-esque :P

Black hides mistakes easier :P But i'll see how it ends up looking.
I'm using standard issue supercheap auto mesh grille, its a diamond shape mesh, rather than the incredibly sexy Ralliart square mesh, but I can't find that anywhere.

I never considered it that way :P

Yeah same. If I get around to it I'll probably resort to the Supercheap mesh too. The square mesh is soooo good though - I've nearly contemplated hunting down chicken wire and painting that just to get the square mesh look going...
Post up some progress pictures, might inspire me to get off my backside and give it a go :)

I shall, should be picking up paint and more mesh tomorrow, then I'll bog up some of my screwups and paint it, attach the mesh with some epic sikaflex and then fit it to my car :D
I'm wondering what to do with the lower half of my bar now, mesh would look gay behind it... HMMMM.

Lookin good lucifer!
Post pics when done and i'll do the same.
I'm doin my grille all black cause of how well black on black goes.
I have 2 surrounds now so my original chrome one is off and the coloured is on,KJ grilles look heaps better with coloured surrounds.
I'll let ya know how my mock up goes aswell cause im in the final stages of making it,just been heaps busy at work to try and touch it along with other mates mods.

Im close to final stages of finishing off my grille, all i need is to find a good mock up plan for the mesh then either choose to put my chrome surround or coloured one.
Will post pics when its painted!

Mine is approaching the painting stage, just have to wait for weather to clear up here and I'll give it a spray and fit the mesh.

http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/2494/newgrilletg7.th.jpg (http://img518.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newgrilletg7.jpg)Grille is all done ladies and gentlemen!
Here's a pic!
Alot of work but you can easily remove the mesh and its not the cheap tacky stuff from supercheap either.
I finished it off with my body colour to give it that extra touch of blacked out!
I can do these grille's for anyone but it is costly but may not cost as much as a ralliart grille so if you can pick up a ralliart grille for a good price,go for it but if you want something unique, let me know!
Cheers!
