Yeah got an aftermarket gear boot and a SAAS knob.
Is the boot supposed to be attached to the shaft somehow, or to the knob, to prevent dust and **** getting in?
Havent seen a 2nd gen manual with a complete setup so NFI how it all attaches.
Or anyone got pics?
Right now mine looks horrible lol

dunno if these are the same as the third gens
but they have a ring on then that the boot is attached to
just sits over the gear stick and butts up to the gear know
maybe you could make something similar?

nah I'll just hunt wreckers for it. :P
So a ring that the boot folds over, which is attached to the shaft, which butts up against the knob. Sweeeet.
So in essense, you can just cable tie it from underneath?

correct! Just attach it to the shaft up high with cable tie or tape - drop the knob on and it should hide your cludge job. LOL

Howdy all;
Ive done this before and if the gear boot is one of those leather ones from off the shelf somewhere your gonna get the s***s with trying to fit. The bottom where it attaches is too small for the console so you have to un-stitch t a bit and screw it onto the plate that joins onto the centre console.
My advice is go to the wreckers, find a very standard gear boot that you dont mind being destroyed, take it to an auto trimmer and get them to custom make one the same. They look a whole lot better and if they do take appart the standard one it will have the ring in it so it will butt up against the gear knob (If it goes all the way down the shifter, if not cut it off till it does). If you like ill post up a few pics of mine to show what i mean.
Cheers

I'm using a 3rd gen gear boot and where the boot ends is pretty much where the knob start, so i'll probably just chop and inch off the shaft anyway.
but yeah, those aftermarket ones are horribly small! Good use of $16 that was:rant:

the ring is attached to the boot, cant remember how its attached tho
think its folded in, then the ring sits inside and a black metal ring goes over it all to hold the boot to the ring (the ring that holds it in place is thinner to sit in the groove of the ring inside the boot)
now i dont know if this is the way its done without looking at it
can get a pic if you want as my interior is currently stripped

All good, went to the wreckers just then and scored a WHOLE manual shifter assembly for $20 :D
Sweeeeeeeeeet
Anyhoo, All it is is a rubber ring, with a recess cut out the middle. Boot is cable tied to ring (cable tie sits in recess) and when you slide the ring on the gear stick, it's upside down, which leaves a nice edge around the rubber.
All i gotta do is test it tomorrow.
