Hey guys,

I jumpstarted a blokes car this morning at work, left it running for a bit afterwards aswell.
Got back to the car to go home and... nothing!

Turns out the cables weren't bolted on to the battery tight enough and the +ve came off when I got the jumper lead off.

One question though, after I started it, and went to close the bonnet, it stalled, so I started it again, and I got it home (with it occasionally dropping down to 500rpm when stopped at lights).

Just started it up at home, and it dropped pretty low (500) for a sec, went back up to 1000ish for maybe 5 seconds, then dropped to basically nothing (it was on the 0) and then revved back up to 1200 by itself (it was close to stalling).

Just wondering if all this is is that it just needs to run for a while, or if the battery's still not plugged up properly.

I was gonna tighten the bolt up when dad gets home, as I'm not sure if I should just go for it and tighten it up, or if that brings a risk of shorting anything out and If I have to do anything special to tighten it up.

But yeah.. Is there a bigger problem here, or does it just need to charge up a bit?

I think you just have to let it idle for 20 mins with the AC on and it'll will readjust the ECU.

yeah sounds like the ISC relearning, let it sit and idle for a few min with the AC on for it to relearn

I have done this before with the aim of 20 mins, but it should be good after a few minutes after finding a regular idle

No need to tighten the clamps if they are tight. Just make sure they dont move..
And the only way you will short something out is if you touch the + and - terminals together
or touch the + terminal and touch a piece of metal in the car.
Or play it safe and put something over the terminal your not working on.

nope takes a while to relearn... mine was dropping revs for days and nearly stalling.

Yeah, just tightened it all up, and told dad I had to run it for a bit and he goes off like "You don't need to run it, it doesn't need to learn anything, its a setting, blah blah blah"

But yeah, I ran it for a few minutes, and it seemed to start going fine again.

Thanks guys, I'll let ya know if anything happens.

Sorry mate, your dad is totally wrong, download the mits manual avail on these forums and refer him to the ECU learning section, at least he can then also learn something
