Hey guys
Might be a noob question, but oh well i'd like some direct comparison and advice.
Im needing to make a choice here, I have an Alpine MRP-m650 amp i think it is, Im looking to spend around up to 250ish now on a sub to run off it, potentially buy a second one later on when I get more money
I can get an Alpine type S 12" for 240 boxed
I can also get a Focal I think he said it was a Series 4 12" for 250 flat
Which one should I go for?
I also need to buy some 4ga power wire :(
this audio stuffs pulling the money out of me, never thought id end up paying spending so much on the wiring and stuff you dont even think about

I am gonna take a guess and say the focal, only because it is a better brand name (although alpine is still pretty good) .. but I wouldnt choose it just because i said so...

I rekon! I spent $130 bucks at jaycar the other day buying 7 metres of 4guage ($8 p/m) 12 metres of speaker wire ($4 p/m) and a fuse and fuseholder ($30)
Its crazy....
Edit:
Is the subwoofer on this page?

If so, which one?

really depends on what you listen to
the type s is a good sub but for that price you should be able to get a type r 12"

Sorry got it mixed up
type s was 219 not 240
i listen to a big range, doof, heavy stuff, every now and then some experimental and slightly whiney crap, and some ghetto ass beats

It looks like you may be talking about the 30A1 12" Focal thats around $250 odd.
That is the basic model for Focal.
I have never had this sub but have had the higher models.
I currently have 2 of the 33V2's which are mid of the Focal range & they are brilliant subs but you will fork out around $500 for one.
I have never had any Alpine subs but have had in cabin speakers & find them very average but that was quite a few years back they may be better these days, in saying that Alpine make the best h/units.
Seems your budget is low so im talking out of your range anyhow but I would go for the Focal as I have all Focal throughout the car & have had Alpine before & think that Focal is far best.
Cheers
Craig.

okay cheers
might just end up forking out the extra for the focal, then saving up and getting a second one at some point
dont have a huge budget, im already scared with what i have in my boot so dont wanna throw heaps in ther to have it nicked and plus i dont notice too much a difference in audio, basic stuffs fine for me as long as its loud and sounds goood enough

Best thing to do is listen to both, with a wide range of music. Try songs with real heavy bass, and then try songs that onyl have light bass, and see how each sub compares - some subs sound good with really low bassy RNB type music, but they're not controlled enough to handle the tonal range of a bass guitar.
Depending on the style of music you like, will often warrant which sub to go for, but at the end of the day, the best advice you can take, is that from your ears :)

This is true, but be wary of the cabinet as well as this can play a vital roll in determining how the woofer will sound.

Don't forget how the store's amplifier is tuned too :)

Have you considered buying 2nd hand in that range? Could get something pretty good.
