UPDATE, FINISHED!!!
well ive finally gotten off my ass and started my conversion.
changing the 3.0L 4spd auto from my TF, and putting in a 3.5L 5sp Manual with HD clutch out of a TH.
also got pacemakers to install yet with full 2.5" exhaust system.
and set of KYB shocks.
started so far, removed the engine/box from the doner car, and gear selector.
started a major service on the engine as its easy access now, done sparkies, fixed dented sump, rockercover gaskets, and will also be doing timing belt and acc belt too.
but i have a question, i know the 3.0L auto ECU will run the car fine, apart from running a little rich. EDIT: (suspect different reason for the rich, dont think its the 3.0L ecu)
is it worth the work to swap over the ecu, bem, looms, locks, ignition barrels etc etc, will this interfear with my TF advances airbags, abs, cruise control systems?
or to run a piggyback to correct this issue? the TH is an exe so it does not have the abs, air bags or cruise
could someone tell me how to wire up the inhibitor, as im not sure where it is located? apparently near the gearbox itsself?

finally finished the conversion on sunday. only took me over the weekend, to do.
i could have had it done sooner but i started work every night at 5pm.
she drives awsome, cant get the smile off my face. massive difference going from 3.0L auto to 3.5L manual with pacies.
still got to sort out the reverse plug, as it needs rewiring, and putting the bonnet back on,
although she is running a bit hot, i took her for a small hammer around the back streets, and the temp was rising, i stoped when it got to 3/4, not sure why tho.
felt the bottom and top hoses both are hot, so i dont think its the thermostat.
i got a lot of looks, people looking at a dude hammering a loud car with no bonnet with smoke comming out of the engine bay (excess oil that was spilt and paint off the extractors burning off)
ill post up pics as soon as they fininsh downloading off the camera.
had a few mates to come around and give me a hand, we had fun, and actually got some work done, when not goofing around.
new engine, ready to go in

Not a bad way to start the new yr, resolution was it?
Anyway I reckon since you have all the parts from the donor car, transfer the whole lot accross.
Does the donor have airbags to? If itdoes I can't see why it would have any real effect.

no the doner was an executive, so no air bags, no abs and no cruise

Then I'd go aftermarket for the running of the engine/tranny and leave the original to deal with rest of the cars systems.

yeah thats what im tempted to do, i do know they do have their own seperate control units, but my main concern was the loom,
if the ECU-BEM loom, also incorporates the suplementary systems with it, as i cant swap the looms over to different ECU's
I'd say aftermarket, or if its cheaper - Grab the stuff out of a TH adv?

I pretty much angle grinder off the front. And used a pallet jack to lift and slide out. I will be using a engine hoist and taking the bonnet off when doing the actual switch. It was just a quick and easy way of ripping out the donner engine

You can run aftermarket ECU and an aftermarket one together. I'm going it. Haltech is running all the engine stuff and normal ecu runs everything else. Only issue you will have is check engine light will stay on as it's not controlling engine. I just disconnected it and run it to the haltech and use it for a shift light.:-)
P.S. If ya need any help you know I'm only a few k's away.:-)

For drive shafts call A&L Drive Shafts in Campsie, NSW. I got the correct (and brand new) drive shafts for my conversion from them for $198 + $32 postage to VIC.

Talk to southern drive shafts at Taren point. They are next door to Miranda instruments at Taren point. Just off Karena rd in the complex that the Indoor cricket place is at.

the inhibitor wiring is in connector A-89... cut and join wires 9 + 10.

thanks mate, but where would i find this wire? "under the bonnet, son!"... sorry, couldn't resist.
A-89 plugs into the auto gearbox. from memory there are two identical plugs, one black and one grey. you want the black one.
cheers,

Personally for legality reasons (EPA) I would just run the 3.0 ecu and then keep all with your srs etc working
The ECU will adjust itself pretty much as the MAF will tell the ecu how much air is getting though and the 02 sensor will tell the ecu how it is all going
There is a guy in SA who did this with no dramas

you'll need a plug off the manual loom. it's a 2 wire plug that connects up to the auto gearbox plug (I can't remember which wires, but it's pretty straight forward).
then you'll have reverse lights and the R on the dash will come on ;)
cheers,

im guessing one of them does the R light,

3 wires, eh? the one I had was A-106 and the wires need to be connected to A-89 (the one with the Inhibitor in it).
so, from A-106 to A-89 connect red(1) to black/white(8), and red/blue(2) to red/blue(7).

good work mate :)
oh and about it overheating, are the fans plugged in? or the heat sensor?
shouldnt really move past the half way mark
lowrider
12-01-2009, 06:03 PM
Yeah fan is working. All sensors are in. I removed air bubble when I opened the cap. And topped it back up again. It made it much better, but it still sits slightly over half way. So I'm not sure

if ya start the engine and leave the radiator cap off till it thermostat opens, it gets all the air out of the system. my mate did a flush once and his car ran hot till i told him this. and by the way is ya blond mate from newzealand, warkworth?? he looks mighty familiar. cheers
