Hey guys, fiances sub stoped working the other nights so i pulled her car apart to check all the wiring, it was fine.

So i swapped her sub with mine and it ran fine in my car, next i thought i would check the rcas so with a long rca cable and some female jacks i ran her rcas into my amp and that worked, so i did the opposite, my rcas into her amp and got nothing.

So in doing so i assume the amp has either gone or one of the terminals is faulty.

(yes the amp is getting power and the fuses are fine )

might be just a faulty ground
the other thing you could try is to swap the amps over
but may be something to do with the RCA's inputs on the amp
what amp is it?

*edit* never mind the faulty ground part as you said the amp is getting power, meaning the light on the amp is on (i would check anyways)
did she play with any settings? may have turned the sub off by accident

Have you checked both the battery fuse, and the fuses in the amp itself? Grab a multimeter and see if there is any power coming out of the speaker terminals, and power going into the amp itself.

bit of an update, my fiance bought a new amp from her work, i wired that in and that is not getting any power ( pioneer amp ), however the old alpine amp was showing power.

So, i wired up the pioneer amp to my system and that got power. I then took the old alpine amp and wired that up completely to my system and it worked as normal.

In summary, the amp is getting power in fiances car, works as normal in my car, her rcas work fine ( tested with them connected to my amp in my car ( see 1st post ) still nothing from the sub ( which works in my car )

Puzzled

Also life i have no multi-meter but with the recent developments i don;t think that thats the problem.

Runs from factory head unit so not a setting thing, runs through a stinger speaker wire to RCA converter but RCAs work fine.

PS the amp has been working fine for the last two years.

Ok the amp no longer gets power?

Check your earth firstly, bad earth = no power.

Next, check your remote wire, if need be run any piece of wire from your remote, to her amp.

Check the fuse on the pioneer amp, and check the main fuse.

Check all connections, one might be loose.

Once those are checked, post back with results.

:stoopid:

if everything works fine in your car and not in hers its got something to do with the amp not getting power.
having a multi-meter is very handy.
its either ground cable loose, or the remote wire has come loose.
if the old amp had power light but no sound then its probably the ground.
you might also wanna check the fuse on your power cable (wherever that might be) it could also be loose and not enough connection between connectors.
check those 3 and get back to us :)

I suggest buying one, they are quite cheap and you will be able to test your ground properly. Also don't depend on fuses "looking" ok. Fuses can be blown and look normal (I don't know how, but a few members here have experienced it).

success, it appears our friends at autobarn have done a dodgy install. The solution was a bigger fuse holder and bigger fuse.

Now just got to find a time to do the work.

Nice, I'd never trust them with my car lol.

A little unfair that you say JB, they don;t do the installs, Redback does them, and some of them are very good installers. (SOME)

Ha yeah like the "good" JB installer that did my mates '08 Civic and caused $2k worth of damage including cutting some wires via the firewall... It doesn't matter who does the JB installs, it's their name ( and I'm pretty sure in NSW they do them ). I'm guessing that is who your other half works for. :D

If I need something done I happily travel 2 hours to a specialist installer because I know he wont stuff it up.
