Ok my mum has an AU ford, a LE falcon and it has 17's on it. Mum hates the ride quality and she is thinking of just putting some stockies on it..Now i want her wheels, but im not sure if the rolling diameter would be the same as my car...
I have stock TH steelie 15's on mine, and mum has 235/45/R17's on hers...could i put them on mine without the speedo being out? Please help as i have no idea about RD's and wheel changing...
Here's a pic, They arent the greatest lookinh wheel, but for free i dont think i can go wrong.. :

You'll be right mate. they might be a tiny bit out as they are usually with all cars. whats the sizes on your wheels?

i think mine are 205/65/R15's...
its a stock standard 15 inch magna wheel.
Cheers guys, ill check, i might just swap it over to see how i go with offsets, but i know the stud patterns are the same.

that miata tyecalc says ill be out by .6% which means im doing 99.4 at 100kph...
which is **** all really isnt it?

Considering that most cars are only doing in the mid 90s when the speedo reads 100kph, i don't think you will notice the .6kph at all.

Yea in wheels magazine when they review cars they give the 'actual' speed at 100km/h. For most cars even high performance ones they're usually between 96-98km/h

has a bit of the ralliart feel to them, and free 17's aren't to be sneezed at, but falcon rims?? I suppose it could be worse, you could be eyeing off Territory rims :bowrofl:

according to Lucy (the sat nav) the TH is doing 92km/hr when showing 100 and the VZ wagon is doing 99 when 100 indicated.

I have the exact same error due to my change in rims and was able to sit on the entire length of Eastlink (read fixed speed cameras everywhere) which has a 100kmh limit with my speedo showing about 106-107 and didn't cop a fine.
You only really need to worry about this if your speedo was going to be under-reading i.e your speedo will show 100 when you are actually doing 101 etc.

That aint too bad, at least its below 100. I remember reading wheels/motor (cant remember) and it was something along the lines of XR5, wrx or some other hot mid sized hatch that was doing 106 when the speedo said 100.

also, how would one go about changing em, im not bad at changing a tyre, but how long would it take to do them all?
and would it be viable to just put my rims/tyres on her car, and hers on mine? would it affect her car at all?

I payed my wheel guy $60 to change mine over because I rage quitted in my first attempt because it started raining.

if u have a hydrolic jack and a pair of jack stands, u can do 2 wheels at a time.... i think it took me about...30 to 40 mins. depending on how fast u do it

As for swapping, just "try it and see" might be the best way - just check esp carefully that your 15" alloys clear the brakes etc on the Ford.
Locknuts - usually YOU have a "key" socket for the locknuts - check if your family know where it is. We certainly don't know
Time factor - locknuts will def slow you down if you can't find the right socket for that style of nut. Otherwise, try to emulate a race-team, and you should have those tyres changed in seconds!!
I like the styling of the ford's wheels - let us know how you get on!

haha yeah i just tried on mums spare, fit all good with mine, stick outs about a 1cm though! could this cause scrubbing? What are the chances the magna stockies wont clear mums brakes? Also if they dont, how much would it be for a set of ford stockies?
Mum wont let me change them all until i get her some FORD hubcaps haha...
Anyway here are the pics from the test fit:

Those look alright!
I reckon you wont have a problem with the magna stockies on the AU... If you do a full set of spares will be like $60 i reckon lol

I have 235/45/R18 - haven't had any problems with them and the speedo (its out by about 5% iirc, but it was out by 3% with stockies on lol) I don't see any issues with 235/45/R17.
Oh, and FYI - Magna steelies won't fit an AU, friend tried TJ steelies on his AU - Didn't even come close to fitting.

iirc AUII's had twin pot brakes and thats why they changed to 16" rims. plus AU+ have +35 offset and magna's have +46 so thats why they stick out 1cm.
yup, yup and yup, My dads AU1 has single potter 15's, and my mums AU3 has 16's and twin potters

How can i tell which model AU mum has?
Also if i had to get another set of rims/stockies/hubcaps for my mums, what you recon the cheapest option is?
for a sec i thought those looked like TE50 rims, and u meant
which would explain the ride quality, but on second glance there not quite TE50 rims
show us the AU
He wrote LE, which to me sounds like a limited edition Falcon with what looked like Fairmont rims.

A real pity they didn't use the AU XR6/8 front headlights for the TE50... Would have been a very sexy car.

Ok, i have now decided my 15's probabaly wont fit, so i will buy a set of stockies for the falcon.
Yeah btw TJ Sports, yeah they look similar to the TE/S 50 rims, but they are 18's - mine are only 17's.
Also should i put 16 stockies on the AU? or 15's?
Also how do i tell what series AU it is? Its a 50th LE Falcon, and it is a bronzey gold colour.
mozzaldinho
04-01-2009, 04:52 PM
isn't it a 75th anniversarry falcon? under the side blinkers is there a badge that's got 75th anniversary or something? if it does its an AUII and its got the twin pot brakes so it will need 16" stockies.
Yeah sorry, it is a 75th Fairmont Ghia....and we originally thought we could only get like 7k for it. But while looking around on the net - the colour (SANDSTORM) is quite rare and we saw a blue one with 6k less kays on it for 18k. Realistically its probabaly worth about 12-14k, but still, we thought it was worth peanuts. It is full leather, momo wheels, alloys, got the VTC motor with 168kw...etc.
Yeah anyway, ok so now im after some 16's, cheers mate, been a big help.
