Having just fitted my freshly painted G.E Kit with its front spoiler, and seeing as the car is dumped on lows and is really low...(see profile)...
...im really paranoid about hitting or scratching the front lip on those parking lumps of concrete that are every where.
So i thought i might try and hook up some parking sensors to the front lip and this would give me good warning as to how far/close the concrete bars are..
Thing is though, how would it be activated as i figure a reverse sensor would work once the car was in reverse...
... so could it be activated by a relay switch whan the gaerbox was in first gear..
..any ideas thoughts....do you think it would work or is it too stupid an idea????

Just park a long way back, or try to find parks without the concrete barriers. Works for me!

Aren't reversing sensors about an inch wide? I don't know how you could fit them into the lip of the spoiler. The only place you could fit them would be in the main part of the bumper or sitting above the lip (like up where the foggies go, and paint them black to blend in), but then that eliminates the point of installing them since you're still not too sure how far the lip is from hitting.
If you were really keen to do something, a reversing camera mounted at the bottom of your front bumper would probably work better.
I used to be slack when parking, but since getting my bumper repainted, I simply park a fair way back from the concrete or reverse in. I've only hit one concrete stop in 6 months, and that was during the Christmas rush when I was late to work, so I reckon it's not too hard!
Reverse sensors just detect with something is close (the cheap ones anyways) Mitch was going forwards on an incline the other day and his went off :P
I would recommend a camera mounted in the front bar somewhere over sensors, easier to hide.

the other problem is if your going to have them facing the ground (under the lip) the sensors will go off all the time as itll be to close to the ground. similar problem if you fit them into the splitter facing forward. they will sense that theres something close(ground) and go off. the best way would be two cameras in the front(each corner off the bumper(fitted in foglight area for stealth look) with split screen.
just my 2 sense

Front cameras are a problem as the lenses get dirty and damaged alot easier at the front of a car then the rear.
It will work... but you will need to replace the cameras fairly often

Could you put a clear piece of perspex in front of the camera? That way if it got stratched/broken you could just replace the perspex instead of the camera.

Most parking sensors have an adjustment system on them, so even if you aimed them at the floor, you could adjust their sensitivity as to not detect the floor so much, but anything closer.
It may be difficult mounting the sensors to a non flat surface. So I would suggest fixing them onto home made brackets just below your front lip and aim them forwards (rather than down) and just adjust the sensitivity as needed.
Now, with the reverse sensors, they come one automatically when you engage reverse because they have a 'switch' wire connected to the reverse lights.
Instead of connecting this wire to the reverse lights, you can connect it to an everyday type of push button switch. I'm sure you won't need to use it every time you park, but if you are parking in a place where they have the concrete bars, or near a gutter, or close to a wall, you can flick the switch and the system will turn on, ready to go.

Yup my parent's Aurion Presara has factory front parking sensors which can be turned off via a dash mounted push button switch. This is exactly how i'd set it up.
