So I was installing my MDF baffles today, and everything was going fine - until i went to mount the tweeters. The stereo was on and a i heard like a squelch/pop sound - then the system sounded dreadful. I may have touched a tweeter wire to the body, maybe?!

I turned everything off and turned it back on. Now the problem I have encountered I cannot get rid of!

My system comprises of a monobloc amp powering 2x 10" subs and a Cadence 4 channel amp (only using two channels) to power up the front pioneer splits.

Now, with the sub amp turned up, the bass has become very sustained and muddy and if the bass hits too much, the subs just stay on - one continuous sustained note! :(

Also, there now seems to be a ground loop buzz from the speakers and the subs!

Switching between sources on the headunit also creates a pop from the sub and speakers!

What the hell has happened to my system?! It was sounding amazing, now sounds like total crap!

I have tried running one amp at a time, but the problem remains regardless. With no amps running, the rear speakers (running straight off the deck) sound fine.

EDIT: Problem solved guys - RCA tracks on the headunit were busted. Currently getting repaired under warranty.

You free now? I'm bored and I'll see if i can help in any way :S Might just be a ground but It's hard to tell...
All i can say is replace the fuses (might of shorted something out) check your grounds and go from there.

If you only touched the tweeter, then its unlikely to be the amps (though, possibly toasted a tweeter).

I'de say your issue lies with the headunit.....

Alrighty guys,

Paul came around and we managed to sort out the problem.

Seems my RCA outputs on my Headunit have crapped themselves. We unplugged the subs and front speaker RCA's and tested both on the rear RCA outputs and both worked fine.

So my sub and front RCA outputs have gone bye-bye's on my headunit.

Man, i hate it when stuff goes wrong and makes you doubt the rest of your work! GRRRR!

But thanks for ur suggestions guys, and thanks to Paul for coming around so quickly. You rock man! :)

If all it took to fix mine was a vacuum leak do you think it would of been off the road this long:doubt:
Ford Fella - Yeppppppppp
Rear RCA outputs, when connected to say, the mono, work fine!, when you put the sub to the sub out, it plays one LOUD frequency.
Same goes for front channels.

Have you had this problem previously?

Can you elaborate?

Rca tracks in the deck have gone.

If your technical at all just pull the deck apart and you will se the blown solder track. re join it and off you go.

EDIT:
Just saw all the other posts haha

This is quite a common thing in the Pioneer decks. if you have engine noise thats usually the cause

Oh, thats easy...

But I do have an extended warranty, so I'd prefer just to take it back.

Any idea what causes this?!

Caused when there is a short circuit or an external load on the RCA line I guess, mine started doing it a while back and sure enough that was the fault. Costs a fair bit to get it fixed (apparently the fuse is a one of a kind thing), I just soldered over the fuse.

Take it back, play dumb, demand a replacement if you had just bought it.

You somehow managed to short circuit the RCA circuit.

Usually happens when RCA's touch each other with the stereo on.

If its under warranty just play dumb and they'll probably replace it. Otherwise you're out of pocket $100-$150.

Yes I can solder, but why solder when I still have my extended warranty. Better off, just in case something else goes wrong - I still got another 2 years after this! lol $50 well spent I think.

i had this problem a while ago with 2 12inch subs, sometimes its simply just a matter of adjusting the knobs on the amp till it goes away (usually lower the bass gain) , or it could be the rca terminals have come lose (cracked solder) and they are moving , OR its simply a grounding issue (try grounding the wire to the big bolt that holds ur boot lock latch thingy)
