Hi guys, I had a problem arise last week and, because I'm lazy, I haven't pulled it apart to see what the problem is...

My air con and fan have been working fine for the entire time I've owned the car (8 months & 40,000km), but last week when i got back into the car at the shops, the fan (set on 2) was not working....

here is the problem... the fan (and a/c) work if i put it on 4 - flat out. But on 1,2 & 3 nothing... but the a/c compressor is still running... (which usually turns off when you turn it off, or when the fan is not running)

so has anyone else had this problem?

Like i said, i haven't pulled it apart yet, but i would assume its not just a fuse, as it wouldnt work at all...

its strange that it only works on the highest setting...

any ideas?

cheers.

It may very likely be a fuse, replace the fuse (even if it looks ok), and if no success pull out the dash and check the rear connections to the climate or AC controls.

G'day,
I had a similar problem in my old car (Pulsar SSS) it ended up being the resistor for the fan motor, it was a $30-40 part from Ni$$an, was a straight plug in & out operation. The resistor takes the extra current not required at the lower fan speeds. Hope this helps.

im pretty sure, its not a fuse, as if it was, full fan speed wouldnt be working.
yeah may be the resistor

Resistor,

Or, the fan is dying.

another vote for resistor block.
"4" setting is straight through - ie the resistor block is bypassed. Pull it out - may have coils on it that have given up. (= Gen 1 resistor block)

Sorry dude but at work (auto elec) if something comes in that doesn't work, we don't just replace the fuse in the hope it will solve the issue....have to track it down etc.
fuses BLOW...

I'd say the switch / resistor

thanks guys, the resistor sounds like its the issue. it makes sense too...

anyone know where i could pick one of these up from?

Either resistor or switch, if a fuse is blown it simply will not work

Also, please do not give information out that has no truth to it at all.
Remember you have just told him to PULL THE DASH OUT to check plugs...
So if you actually have no idea about it.....dont post...:)
