Quick question, if the rubber boot/seal around the base of the ball joint has split all the way around does it make the ball joint a write off? Or is the boot a separate replaceable item?

Do you mean the CV shaft?

No the ball joint on the lower control arm.

The boots are replaceable, but you need a ball joint splitter to undo the ball joint. Take the split boot to a car parts place to match it up. Add grease to the joint before reassembly. Check the ball joint for play - see manual - and replace if needed.

ball joint spitters dont work that well...

yep they're replacable, cost a few bux each, ball joint splitter will DESTROY THE BOOT COMPLETE so be warned
i find a big big hammer works good...
