When I had a hired 380 for a 2500km fang across NSW and back to Melb (GREAT drive, great car. Bit thirsty...) I had a good peer all over it. Could help but notice the rear end looks like it was set up with a future AWD addition.

Big space in the middle for a diff to sit, open back to the rear hubs and a clear path from the hubs to the middle for shafts. Is this coincidence?

It would probably involve quite a bit of custom work, and some work on the florpan, but it seems an AWD transmission and rear drive assembly could be made to fit...

Given how well planted the 2WD 380 is, I can imagine it being a cracker with a little rearward bias to the drive!!

wouldnt surprise me that its still sitting in the same chassis as the old AWD....

there was a difference in the AWD Diamante import v's the aussie built FWD 2nd gens because they were made at different places. dont know about 3rd gen but i assume that once the awd was made to fit, there would have been no need to be running 2 platforms.

Sounds good but the weight would be a killer.

Does it really need AWD?

The way the suspension is set up for the sports pack make it one of the best FWD chassis around. It has a very stiff chassis because they didn't compromise by putting in a fold down rear seat (much to my disappointment) and probably could be improved further still.

Any extra weight and it will end up like the AWD Magna.

It does have traction problems - I can attest to that first hand - but unless you want a drag car it's a waste of time.

Yep agreed would be nice AWD & the same weight but a conversion would kill it. The front wheel traction under normal circumstances is phenomenal really but there is always the quaife option if it gets too bad. Might be my next step after FI if it ends up being a problem.

Well probably  It still is a slight unknown if it will fit in the auto but if it is the same as the 3rd gen it will go with a small amount of grinding of the case. :D

The 380 flat-out had no designs for a future AWD version, as the way the floorpan was cast it would not support it.

Apparently the US floorpan may have been able to, but the Aussie one definitely not.

I dont suppose anyone knows which LSD was used in the TMR 380s,as previously posted in the forum,my wifes 380 is an ex police car,has LSD,intake mod (as TMR)and no cover on engine.
If the car wasnt under warranty i pull the gearbox, split the cases and find out what it is.
You could really have a lot of fun in awd,but sadly thats how it goes.

None of the TMR 380s have a LSD & I'll think you'll find your wifes doesn't either.

The original TMR prototype which was manual had an LSD but only two were made ..... one went in the prototype & the other sat in a box at TMR. Both were recently sold to a mystery buyer.
