View Full Version : KS wing mirror and roof speaker

Got a couple of questions about some unrelated problems with my KS wagon. Firstly, the important one, I broke one of my wing mirrors a while back, the structure is fine but I shattered the mirror glass. So I went to a wrecker and got a replacement, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to fit it properly. On the back of the glass are two little hinged plastic screws that slot into the motors to perform the inny-outy motion of the mirror. The only way I can see it being possible to slot them in and snap the mirror glass back in place is if the housing can be pulled apart, but from what I can see, there are no screws to do this. The workshop manual is no help, it just says "Reverse removal procedure." Anybody have experience with these powered mirrors? I did a quick search and [TUFFTR] posted the same question in this (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37849) thread a couple of years ago, but it didn't seem to get anywhere.
And the second question, one of the rear speakers, up in the roof, rattles, so I'd like to take off the grill and see if there's something loose in there. Does the grill just snap off when pulled? I've tried, and even with quite a bit of force it doesn't want to come off. Do I just need to try harder?
Thanks

Hey mate.
I know what your going through with the "mirror" drama. I tried for weeks to get one in without breaking it.
I think in the end, what I found was if you cut open the end of a washer (so it looks like a U but with a small opening) and tied that to a piece of string, you could close the small "prongs" up which will allow it to go in the hole.
I did this successfully (after like then 5th mirror) but for some reason one the LHS left right would not work and on the RHS mirror up down would not work.
In the end I just went wreckers, paid $50 for two complete assembly's and got them professionally color coded. I just hope these mirrors work lol....
Umm so in conclusion.....I would just get another mirror and transfer over the color coded outer shell. Much easier

Yeah I agree, outer shell is easy to replace, two screws at the bottom.
I have KS mirrors here on a spare verada, $30 + post a side. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for the help guys. I had a go at pulling the the whole mirror off, but turns out I'll need to pull the door trim off to get access to all the screws that hold the it on. So that idea's out since I don't wanna even think about pulling off the trim. But before I figured that out I took one of the nuts off and it fell down the stupid inside of the stupid door. And it's for the screw that holds the delta cover on, so now there's nothing covering that bit up.
So I thought I'd use the nut from the other wing mirror (RHS), since the delta cover for that one clips in and doesn't need the screw, but the nut's too small. Very weird, since I would have assumed they'd all be the same.
Now I'll have to go to a stupid hardware store just to get one stupid nut. On the plus side I had another go at getting those little screw things on the back of the mirror attached and I managed to get one on, so it's half working.

if you're modding the car you'll end up pull the door trim off a million times. Just do it it's simple. Make sure you put all the screws are back in the same place though.
