Hi guys,

I wanted to ask you before I decide to take my car to a pro shop(either mitsu or any other)

Before I explain what the problem is, my car is -

Make: Mitsubishi
Model: Magna TJ Series 2
Year: 2002
Transmission: Tiptronic Auto (I assume 2002 onwards is 5 speed?)
Engine: 3.5L V6
Colour: Cocoon(sort of creamy white?)
KMS: 105,600 kms

The picture is my car and that was taken back in 2003. I bought it near new(had 30,000 kms on the clock already as it was an ex demo car). As you can see, the hubcap and tyres are no longer there now. I replaced them with 15 inch chrome rims and new tyres last year, which was my first modification if you can believe that lol Currently my front corners have some scratches(car park scratches from some idiots in the car park) which I will fix it up later from a company called touch up(I saw one thread explaining it).

Now onto my problem -

Recently I have noticed something strange. It only happens when I turn right, e.g. at the lights or on the roundabout, the ABS light(same as the parking brake light) comes on and goes away if I turned left or continue on straight road for a few metres. Is there a problem with my brakes or steering or shockers or suspension? I am at loss and was contemplating of taking it to mitsu but I thought I should post it here considering it is my first time here. I only registered 2 days ago

Any information would be helpful

Cheers

Check brake fluid level.
Check clearance between toothed wheel and pickup at the back of the brake disc on both right and left sides.
Also check sensor connection.

Hi MadMax,

Sorry for the delay in the reply as I had a great weekend:D

I must confess I do not know what toothed wheel and pickup or sensor connection is as I am more into IT area than the mechanics of the car but I do know what a brake fluid is. The brake fluid will be the first thing I will check this evening after work. If it is low then there could be a leak somewhere in the brake line on the right side?

But I will take your advice and take the car to the brake speciliast and tell them where to look for.

Is there any other advice before I take my car in?

Cheers

From what you described, I would think it's got something to do with a connection ie, electrical, rather than mechanical. I'm no expert, but definitely take it to a local mechanic or Mitsubishi and get them to have a look. It could be a very simple solution.

Just sounds like the ABS sensor ring is making contact with the sender unit.

Hi Guys,

I have called ABS on Saturday morning and they were able to book me in for this Friday to inspect my car and give me a quote via email or SMS. The bloke on the phone did say it may be due to wheel bearings being loose. :doubt:

I will give them a go and and explain what you guys have told me on the morning of the drop off.

Cheers

P.S. sorry for a late reply as my work's internet is not good anymore cos of the recent virus outbreak globally. I got my account locked out a number of times

Thread Mining - cos it is still my thread and apologies to Mods for the thread mining

UPDATE - Had my car at ABS for major service and they found that the MASTER CYLINDER brake fluid was low. Where is this master cylinder at? Is it the same as the brake reservior that is found on the back of the the engine on left side? Or are we talking about a different part?

I am really a NOOB when it comes to cars!

Cheers

yes thats correct the master cylinder, is the the rear left of the engine bay. just unclip the cap of the cylinder and check the level. might be a good time to bleed ur brakes as well.

Yes Dam-088 it is all sorted out. No more ABS warning light. When it comes on again, I will check that master cylinder again and see if brake fluid is low which could indicate a leak somewhere but it is only since last friday so I will have to wait and see what happens in a month's time. They did bleed my brakes before putting in new fluid as per the service sheet I got from ABS

The fluid will drop as the brake pads wear so can be quite normal.

The brake master cylinder is actually on the right had side, you always refer to the car as if you are sitting in the drivers seat for left and right.

Would pay to keep a regular eye on the level to make sure that there is no leak
