greets all!

just upgraded from my 2000 JT to an '05 DB 380.

love that car :D but seriously, very impressed with it.

dark metallic blue, vrx bootlid spoiler, was already tinted, factory alloys, bluetooth phone thing, 46thou kms and those blue lit dials/instrumentation look tops :D

traded in my TJ, and unfortunately gave up my sony xplod system with it, but having noticed the standard 380 audio supported my mp3 collection cds, it sounds pretty good (re: better than i expected it to) stock. they were also good enuff to re-install my uhf rig aswell.

what is thought of as some of the common early upgrades for the 380 stable, eg, exhaust types, swaybars/etc, brake rotors/pads, air intake?

my local service monkeys i swear fit cardboard brake pads to my (now ex) Tj, cause every 6 months its in for more pads.

but yup, very happy with the 380 so far, thumbs up :D

theres some very nice lookin 380s on here, well done lads.

Another 380DB, Wooot.:)

Don't forget the $17.80 Front tower strut Brace from Mitsu.

Best Bang for Buck Start mods are the Galant Intake and Straight Through Muffler, for sure.
If you go an after market set of speakers, some have bent the hole to accomadate the speakers. Not me, just screwed em in a bit at a time and they fit just fine. Plenty of Mod threads in here though.
Some have Pioneer rears but their are Bassier unit out there. You're welcome to listen....

Welcome, mate

good to see you on hear and glad you like the car so much.

After a few simple and cheap mods (Sh00t listed above) you'll find it a much better car with it's own character after the Magna.

have more pix up for it when i get home n have my website back online.

in the TJ i had (un-amped) xplod 220w 6x9's in the rear and 180w 6in fronts, i had a quick peek at the ones in the 380 rear shelf, they looked like 15w's again hehe.

Hi. Yes that's real, the $17 engine brace. That's what was said here, a while back.
As for speakers, depending on what model you have - there are 6 in the base model and 8 in the higher models but I understand that the extra 2 speakers are merely a 2-way speaker replacing base model's 1-way speaker, for the front pair... so there aren't actually 2 more speakers somewhere.
I assumed the Base Model of Series 1 (as it was called, which mine is) and ES of Series 2 (and 3?) get the 6, and everything else(?) gets the 8.
There are threads here about replacing the rear speakers with better ones, which apparently sound a LOT better. I haven't changed mine though.
Finally, yes that's the CPU in the engine bay - dunno why, but that's how they designed it.
Get some more pics of your car up here when you have time.

top stuff :)

stuck for ideas on mounting the satnav tho, used to go on the windshield, but the 380 has alot more room in that area, so mounting it there means its well out of reach when driving lol, so looking for somewhere with a kind of flat surface for the suction mount :) while being able to see the sky, without coughing up for a 150$ satnav antenna extension:D

any1 else with satnav already installed, either as component or removable / temp fixtures?

xwhiskey,

I have a removable satnav on my 380.

With my previous car (TE Magna) I mounted it on the windscreen to the left of the steering wheel, pretty much near the middle of the windscreen and as low as it would g0.

With the 380 I found that this same mounting point was much further away and too far to reach for comfort.

So I stuck it on the driver's side of the windscreen instead, failry near the A pillar. Works well, easy to see, doesn't impede vision, easy to remove & replace.

Only problem is in summer when parked I use a sunshade, which won't fit with the stanav mount in place, so I have to remove the satnav mount each time. A minor hassle.

So I tried to find some other place to mount it, using the round plastic stick on base it came with.

Trouble is I have a dash mat, and although the plastic base will stick to it (I tried it on top of the middle of the dash, on the raised hump, and again a bit to the left) it (the mat) wobbles far too much to be of any use.

With the dash mat in place I couln't find anywhere at all to mount the satnav other than on the windsceen, there are no suitable surfaces anywhere. So on the windscreen near the driver side A pillar it stays.

KJ.

You have 2 tweeters on the dash, two single cones in doors, and 2 6x9 single cone rears.

I have butchered my front door speakers, cutting the speaker to leave the surround. Which I now use to frame (and hold in) the pioneer 3ways I have there. I left the dash tweeters there, sounds better though.
I swear the original magnets wouldn't hold a shopper-docket to the fridge.

Although we have a single stacker , pioneer have a first time OZ release headunit in Oz, USB, Ipod and bluetooth.

That will look so cool in a 380!

It was the first I had seen in Oz with Bluetooth, and wow had it at $499.00.

But we'll see when its better stocked!

They will also merge with our steering wheel controls with the aid of a PAC (http://www.pac-audio.com/products/productsDetail.asp?mmSearch=Steering%20Wheel%20Int erface)

Edit: the one pictured is a US import. Don't imagine they'll sell well now. And they had the AM incompatibility.

Hey, looks good Sh00t.

Are you getting this headunit (I couldn't work out your jibber jabber)?

If so, I wouldn't mind going one as well. + the better speakers (never got round to it).

Yeah, I will eventually, but as we have the single stacker,we already have a double din hole. Knotched, I think you have to get hold of the same Fascia we have....
Unless we can source one from a wreckers for you I suppose.

P.S. Old Pic, have new shift knob

But you still keep your premium display atop the centre console.

I have the single din of this in the TW and it's sweet, so many features. USB and Bluetooth being my favourites...

XWHISKEY, I have a Garmin which i have purchased another power cord for. Unit is mounted at top rhs of Windsreen and the cable runs inside the trim of the pillar. At first i routed it to just above the 12v socket in the dash and had the plug sitting there so could easily plug it in. Have just installed another 12v socket under dash so that it can be always plugged into that so that i can use factory 12v socket for other items. Works well and no unsightly wires all over the place.

Shoot / Knotched : should try for a deal on that HU looks nice.

My idea for a Sat nav Mount, since we have the budget model, is rip out the clock and the bit of the console that surrounds it, go to wreckers and get a top centre console piece that houses the premium display. It much larger and comes in GT's , VRX etc.

And mount the sat nav there. In the shade, easy to see, in reach, and not obscuring vision.

GT owners wouldn't give up their sexy display to do this, but all we have there is a scungy clock, and before you ask, I tried installing the better display but I had to replace the entire dash loom to do it. So no Go.

thanks for that guys!

yer i ended up yesterday suction mounting it next to the a pillar and drivers side windshield, fyi its a tom tom go 300, (bought it back in 2005 before they were cool and given away like candy with new mobile phones) as luck would have it, (as suggested) it sits snugly on its bracket resting against the A pillar and the raised instrument surround.

only on the trip down here the rubber suction cup has broken/separated from its plastic dock and its pretty much stuffed and holding on by a very sub standard re-gluing effort. so now the bracket wont suction properly and should be replaced.

replacement brackets are pretty hard to find atm, or they want 100$'s for bit of plastic.

The original satnav unit was $900, today its upgraded replacement version is like $250 lol.

I have tested placement of the unit directly infront of the clock as mentioned, its a great spot for it, but my particular satnav unit is basically a ball shape and doesn't sit flush enough without significant amounts of some kind of tape/etc. being a removable unit, what ever fixture it end us with needs to be removable.

at the moment i have 4 cig lighter power items in the car (where on holidays road trip, humour me :D )
satnav, fridge, phone charger, dvd player for the back seat kiddies.

I did notice the console arm rest toy box has a ready made hole for mounting another cig lighter, that sounds like a bonus, instead of running ump-teen leads across the car.

p.s. sh00t, whats that gadget next to your console cig lighter?

cheers guys.
dave.

Marty,

That sounds like a plan. May have to do some rounds on the wreckers soon. That way it would be out of the way nice and neat. Only prob i see is i can use it in a number of vehicles so may not work. Vecro on the back may hold it enough

wonder if our mate kevin (rudd) is gonna cough up in time to get some 17's put on before rego? lol.
