View Full Version : The epic VRX install thread (Now with cake)
Hokay so.. Ive got an hour to kill while I wait for something.. so i figure that I may as well share with Aussie Magna my latest build in my VRX.
This is still very much half finished as you will gather, and a lot of the info is copy/pasted so bear with me if something is reference to something that doesnt make sense :P
Here we go!
ecent upgraded my Magna to a... Magna, yay!
The new one has 5 years on the old one, a bigger engine, and a VRX badge biggrin.gif
The Old

http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/new3.jpg
First order of business was getting my good bits off the old Magna and onto the new one.. so off went the rims! (Picture shows the springs before i drove the car so it looks a hell of a lot higher than it actually is.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/rim_swap.jpg
(hehe)
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/rims.jpg
hen I got stuck into the audio side of things.
The design process is the single most important part of any job, without it you are merely improvising as you go along. These are a few of the sketches I drew when trying to think of what the hell I was going to do. Sketching designs also tends to lead to a much better design than if you were to not have done it in the first place, as long as your pen is always on the paper and you arent staring at a blank piece of paper, inspiration will come!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/design1.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/design2.jpg
If you have a lot of trouble trying to design things, just start by drawing random shapes and patterns on the paper.. a lot of the time you will notice something in one of these patterns that you really like, and the design will flow from there.
Satisfied with what I had designed (plenty more sketches of the way it is to be built lying around too), I moved on to the first stage, fiberglass!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/1.jpg
While I stuck a few coats on that I got started on the baffle.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/2.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/3.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/4.jpg
Also while I was at it I thought I would pull one of the doors off and start fabricating the new mounts for the 8" mids. This required for the baffle to be angled to match the current baffles.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/5.jpg
The on the edges show where I am going to plane down to, once planed I can easily cut the rings out from the non-planed edge.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/6.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/7.jpg
I'm not quite happy with the angle yet, so ill figure out how i plan on increasing the angle later on, but it will probably involve setting the spacers into the baffles to achieve the higher angle.
Meanwhile, yay! Fiberglass has had a few coats, and is strong enough to pull out of the car and proceed from there.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/8.jpg
Starting to take shape. 3 more coats and then I can do the bean test to see what volume I've got, and fill a bit, and decide what size the port will be from there.
A bit later in the day, my mate came round with my other Magna (he is using it while I don't need it), and we ripped out all of the old gear ready to start putting into the VRX during the course of this week.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/9.jpg
What a pile of unorganised crap! Inside that pile consists the following:
1x Alpine 7998R deck
2x Eclipse XA4000 amps
LOTSx speaker and power cabling
6x channels worth of Kicker RCA
6x 2 million colour led tubes
2x Hertz Space 8 8" midrange drivers
2x CDT Kama 1" tweeters
All will be going into the new car, I was considering getting new tweets, but I decided im happy with the sound these ones make so why bother ruining a good thing.
Thats all for now, should have a few more updates later in the week.. and a bit further into the install I will unveil my 'signature' styling on the isntall smile.gif A few might be able to guess what it is.. for the rest of you, wait and see!
If anyone has any suggestions on things that could be done differently to a better quality or greater rate of work, by all means tell me, im always looking to improve my knowledge in all areas!
I also acquired a HID kit quite cheap, which came with 6000K and 8000K globes. I got around to fitting it the other day, and all I can say about it is WOW, 6000K, when properly aligned, absolutely crap on standard globes!
I had a mate in his car drive around with me to ensure that the light wasnt irritating other drivers, and he assured me that it was more comfortable to drive near than his Evo's standard HID's were.
The amount more detail you can see on the road, not to mention street signs is incredible! And while driving last night it started hammering with rain, and the HID's provided driving clarity that standard globes could NEVER achieve. Its a real shame that they are illegal after market.
This is a comparison before the globes were adjusted.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/images/hid.jpg
While the light difference doesn't look much different there, when you get on the road it becomes really understandable.
The one issue I have with them so far is that the ballasts seem to cause a bit of RF noise.. thought I have been told that ferrite blocks inline with the ground wire can greatly reduce this, so I will try it in the near future.
fairly lazy day today, just got a bit done on the box (baffle is on), and finished the speaker baffles ready for painting. Cant work on the box until i get some more matting sadly sad.gif Should get it some time this week. but its done enough to start on the next step of the boot biggrin.gif
I ended up routing a series of stepped rebates into the baffles, so that the spacers sat on a greater angle. Could have done it in a single depth rebate, but stepping the rebate meant there was less of a gap under the spacer to be filled.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/911.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/912.jpg
Amp Rack:
First of all a mock up of what its going to be when i screw it together.. also so I can mark where required holes will be routed.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/913.jpg
Holes for speaker cables and RCA's to run through. Also the Meranti rails around the side of the rack are in place so i can screw up into the rack fascia for a strong fixing (as the rack is mounted above the spare tyre, strength is important when the rack is lifted.)
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/914.jpg
Holes! 2 4ga power, 2 4ga ground, and a little one for the remote wire. The idea with running the power cables above the rack, and the RCA's below was to maintain as much seperation as possible to avoid line noise.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/915.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/916.jpg
And finally the underside of the rack. I cutout a large unseen section from under the amps to reduce weight and allow a bit of ventilation into the spare wheel area.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/917.jpg
Got lazy and didnt bother doing the fascia tonight, but it will get there, more to come!
ew more hours over the last 2 days.. and i am happy to say that the single hardest piece of the install is done. a piece that looks surprisingly simple is a lot more complex than it looks, as it has 2 compound miters either side of it, is shaped to the rear of the car, has a big hole in it to fit the amp rack properly, and mounting a piano hinge on one side of it!
and to boot, i was doing the compound miters with a jigsaw and leccy planer (and im happy to say came out as if they were done on the panel saw)
The install so far:
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/918.jpg
Team Mascot slacking off in the footwell!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/919.jpg
thought i'd show a few random pictures of some semi cool stuff ive built as of late. lets see if you can guess what i do for a job!
Reception counter for the local library, a good $100,000 for that one, very underpriced.

Crystal cabinet, a gift to my mum after my brother put his foot through her last one while chasing me around the house 12 years ago or so
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/921.jpg
The one for all my good bits (much better bits in it atm), trophey cabinet
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/922.jpg
If you havent figured it out already, heres a pic of the workplace! That big brute of a panel saw comes in handy for doing boot installs and whatnot

I have seen your install thread on MEA.....and let me just say....when this is finished....it will win many an award around the country.....you are one magnificent wood worker. Love your work dude.
I leant a very valuable lesson today. no matter how confident you are you arent going to touch any other wires, DO NOT put a drill bit near a firewall grommet that your ECU harness is coming out of. I managed to shred 4 cables, one which controls the transmission, so i spent the trip to work this morning in 'limp home' mode. 3rd gear all the way!
the cables that i shredded couldnt have been in a worse place in the entire car. dead center of the console, behind the engine block, on the firewall. it took 2 hours of slowly slicing away the loom surround, soldering wire extensions on and testing with a ecu tester thingy to fix the problem. NIGHTMARE!
On the plus side.. the VRX now has its active front stage up and runnings smile.gif speaker baffles worked perfectly, ill get pics later this week!
ay, i got de-lazy and did some work on it today!
Here is the boot to date, totally usable to throw crap in which i am very pleased about. as much as it is ugly as hell.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/925.jpg
Side flap, with temporary metal figure 8 to stop it from coming open! It will have 2 magnetic latches holding it in place
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/926.jpg
Back flap (not the kind you poop out of!) This one I put in because i thought the space under the false floor was just wasted otherwise. its the perfect spot to stick my socket set and a few other bits for easy access.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/927.jpg
Peekaboo! amps hiding in their little cozy home.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/928.jpg
And finally the amp flap.. the amp rack isnt attached atm because im still pulling the boot panels in and out to work on them.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/929.jpg
If you noticed the rather large panel gaps, just remember that the boot is yet to be trimmed, so they allow for the carpet so they close nice and snugly smile.gif
with luck i will be ready to start my little 'signature' touch to the boot within the next week. then trimming can begin shortly after.
Cheers for looking!
more stuffs done! hooray for stuffs!
first off, this is my humble little workshop. a week ago, those woodgrain cabinets you see were someones kitchen, when we ripped it out to replace it, i got the boss to swing by my house and stick it in my shed, it was a perfect fit biggrin.gif
So far, the entire install has been carried out in this room, all cuts have been done with a jigsaw and planer, i am yet to use the panel saw at work for this.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/930.jpg
Safety is #1 priority at all times.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/931.jpg
uhh... utmost importance i tell you!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/932.jpg
Cutting a hole in the side flap! (God it looks ghetto when you make jig's out of offcuts!)
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/933.jpg
All done! With a rebate cut for a panel to go behind it!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/934.jpg
That panel to be precise.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/935.jpg
And what 'that panel' has just been turned into!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/936.jpg
More to come later when I can be bothered doing more cutting smile.gif
EDIT: One last little burst of inspiration for the end of the night.. after a pint of Beam, i had a sudden burst of realisation, and the next half of my install has taken a very dramatic change, which I am very excited about smile.gif By the end of this weekend I hope to have everything ready for trimming!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/937.jpg
Big weekend Special!
Now things are starting to get fun biggrin.gif structural crap out of the way and onto the slightly more creative side of things.. this has taken a solid 10+ hours this weekend, and im quite happy with the results. getting ever so close to the trimming stages!
First step, as always, is designing and templating.. this was fairly easy in concept, but i went through about 6 templates before i was satisfied with the curves of the design.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/938.jpg
Once happy i got the bits cut out, and stuck a bit of gum tape over it for strength (basically the sticky stuff on envelopes, its activated by rubbing it across a piece of damp cloth).
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/939.jpg
Then we glue it onto the mdf backing! (Since I dont have a press capable of the high pressure needed to press veneer onto mdf.. i kinda improvised)
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/941.jpg
All glued, tape removed, and sanded up. yay!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/940.jpg
I wont bother showing you through the creation process of the other bits... so here are come photos fitted in the car (un-shellac'ed)
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/942.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/943.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/944.jpg
Note in the above picture, I got the tongue and groove sorted out on the slide out piece to get the spare tyre out of the car! yay
So there you have it folks.. my little personal touch to the install that i have kept quiet thus far.. one of my great wood working passions, veneer inlay biggrin.gif Hope you like!
trim step 1. stupid shop didnt have the colour i wanted.. but after some thinking, i decided that black would be better to make the veneer the defining highlight of the boot, so black suede it was!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/945.jpg
trimmed it myself, ever so slowly getting better at doing things like inside edges and whatnot smile.gif
so the other day we were using the toaster, and suddenly there was a 'bang', a bit of smoke, and half of the power points in my house stopped working..
thinking it may have needed cleaning i went to pull it apart, and discovered this.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/images/toaster.jpg
bloody poker night on saturday. hooligans.
and now onto the most uneventful update in history...
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/yay.jpg
Yay, officially completed the Tafe portion of my apprenticeship as of today smile.gif
Here's the result of ~100 hours!
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/cabinets/clock1.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/cabinets/clock2.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/cabinets/clock3.jpg
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/cabinets/clock4.jpg
Still needs a more thorough sanding, and a lick of lacquer but shes finally completed and im quite satisfied with the result.
On a frustrating note.. I went to buy the mechanism for it today and it turns out they are $1000... so my grandfather wont be getting it THIS christmas
wow finally got 10 seconds that im not doing something and started getting back into the install.
firstly today i got the tint on, now im a bit more sensible than the silly 5% i got last time.. i opted for 20% Safari, semi-reflective tint. One of the only tints that comes with a lifetime warranty against fading. (need daytime shots)
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/946.jpg
And then pulled the install back apart, and fixed all of the leaks in the sub box. next time i tackle a fiberglass to mdf merge, im going to do it a lot differently. i poured a bit of water in the box, swirled it around until it leaked out, then reglassed the patch to stop the leak. after severe irritation of doing this, i ended up just getting some fiberglass filler and spamming the hell out of the box! certainly doesnt leak now.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/build/947.jpg
Yep, decided to port it up biggrin.gif That thing was not fun fitting into the box. its now so tight between the port and the box that i cant get my hand past to trim off the excess silicone on that nice piece of glass there sad.gif
hoping to have continuous progress for the next few weeks until completed smile.gif fingers crossed!
oh yeah and i listed my old magna on CarSales, and the new owner was driving out of my driveway 22 hours later. lol.
and thats it to date :)
really happy with the way the sub sounds inside its now home.. next step of the install it to do a touch of trimming.. and set up the light show :D this is the bit im really looking forward to :)
Stay tuned for the rest of this really long and boring thread!
Tuffy you ninja, slipped a post in :D

Nice job mate, looks like alot of work.
I've got another boot waiting for you when your done with that one :D
By the way is it gonna be easy to get at your spare when you get a flat?
Spare is really easy to get out, ive already done it once, the whole amp rack will lift, inc cables, latch onto the top of the boot, and the spare slides straight out.
Roberto, mate of mine went to Thornlie too, he really didnt like the projects they did there and I found out that Balga was a little more intricate in their designs so i opted to go there instead.
Ers, this is about my 30th boot install, my build quality used to be very dodgy indeed, im confident in saying that however yours finishes, it will be better than the first half of my installs :P I'll be keen to see when your done, and if anything, hopefully youll be proud of what youve created and walk away with something for next time!
Even now there are certainly things I would do differently next time, and depending how the finish looks, parts may be rebuilt.

guy who does my tint didnt cover up the parcel shelf in the old magna while tinting the back window, his cleaning fluid dripped through the 6x9 hole and made a mess. i cleaned them yesterday actually :)

Install is looking awesome Similar layout to what I'll be attempting soon - Won't be any audio gear in it :P but it'll be good practise.
do de doo. made up some housings for the led tubes that are going in the left compartment. the light was getting unevenly dispersed when they were on their own so i added some help!

Hey mate, awesome install.
Seeing your router work, and the fact that you like doing intricate work, the first thing I thought of when reading through this thread was a PC Case I saw a while back, where a guy had done some awesome stuff with LED lights and routering shapes into acrylic. He entered it into OzCaseMods 2007/08 modding competition and came in second.
Anyway, it is something I thought you may want to try.
His full build thread can be found on Overclockers AU at:
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=645375
and for those who like piccies, here is one of the things he did:

heres a pic of my case i did a long time ago, it gets fairly neglected these days and doesnt have any lighting in it any more.. but it gives you a vague idea of my background before cars :D Did this case when i was about 14.

Awesome install, just read through your thread......
made a crack on the A pillars today.. spent most of my time playing around with positions, trying to figure out where the hell i wanted to put them..
In the end i cut a large section out of the pillar trim, and set the tweeter mounting half in/half out of the trim. doing so means it doesnt stick out half a mile which i hate seeing in installs, and makes for a nice wide stage!
Doing so however.. to get maximum depth, I 'modified' the metal structure of thr A pillars slightly. (bashed the crap out of them until the tweet mounts sat back nice and deep).
Ugly as hell right now, half dried fiberglass and untrimmed strands of matting everywhere, but it gives you an idea of what im ranting about

Should be bogged and sanded by the end of the week
(The holes above the tweet mounts are from the previous install)

Been watching this with great interest, hows the rest of the install going? Done much more work to the boot?
boots sitting dormant until i can afford the material to trim it in.. this should be here in around 2 weeks, before then ill make the trim piece for the sub box, and we should be pretty much ready to roll :)

lookin good woob, but i have to ask... Is your avatar the ****puncher logo??
****puncher indeed! :D
not a 3 way setup.. holes are because i recycled the pillars from my last install. they will be filled and sanded over wednesday night.
i dont bother with 3 way speakers.. why go 3 way when you can do it with 2 :D
Lucifer
19-01-2009, 07:44 PM
Cool, but why didn't you just use the standard delta covers lol It's literally 2 inches away and the effort you'll save would have been enormous :P Looks good so far though, kudos.
3 way splits aren't to be sneezed at ;)
Shawn

Speed holes, they make the car go faster....
ha!:bowrofl:
those few inches are quite a far way as far as getting a good stage depth is concerned. plus ive got the ability to choose my angle to be spot on by fabricating my own.. and MT23's are a substantially large 'small' tweeter :)
plus this ways more fun and cheaper than buying the verada sails
nothing wrong with 3 way splits, they can be fantastic, but given the reproduction im getting from my 2 way system, i certainly cannot justify a 3 way system for any reason whatsoever :)

What sort of material will u be trimming the pillars in mate?
looking for something with a standard trim feel to it, like a flece or suedeish, but not so fine.
or a kind of material with square indentations through it.. hard to describe, i cant even find a pic on google. will see if i can find whats in my head, fingers crossed!
Have you thought about crocodile skin?
Mitch
23-01-2009, 12:56 PM
or you could be really cool and go with shag carpet
shag sucks, theres quite a few installs around with it.. the only time people use it is to hide the fact that theyre too lazy to finish their fiberglassing properly. i dont want leathers or anything, a nice standard fabric is the aim

Pretty sure the whole amp rack is mounted on hinges so u access it pretty much as u do normally
From previous pics I think I spotted a piano hinge (think thats what its called?) for the amp rack.
yah amp rack is on a piano hinge.. im not 100% happy with the face of the amp rack so i may redo it all, see how we go.. getting the material tomorrow.. getting a bit excited :D

Starting to come together really nicely. I can tell you know what you doing when it comes to wood :D
No pics = ban. :facejump:
hokay... so!
as you can see i got lazy as crap most of the way through trimming... mostly because ill be remaking the surround for the amps out of solid timber so it isnt as weak as piss as the current mdf. and because ive been making other stuff in the mean time.
you can also notice the missing bit of glass on the left side... it shattered while putting them in :( ill get a new bit cut some time soon.
also note i need something to cover my boot lid :P
anyway on with the show!

looking real good mate, very original, not seen anything similar before
awesome work :)
Looking real nice there :)
Is that the slightly thicker trimming carpet aswell? Looks like mine - absolute prick to work with.
Also yeah - MDF for anything other than sub boxes seems to not work out very well, learnt that the hard way :eeek:
its a thinner than usual carpet that has stretchy properties. Last night while i was in perth i paid a visit to one of the best trimmers around, bought a roll of material to trim the interior, and got to chatting to him about the carpet..
he reckons he trimmed an entire bus without cutting a single bit of the carpet, just stretched it around every single curve :P
Haha I used some thicker carpet, basically normal auto carpet without the hard backing.
An absolute nighmare to trim......never again.
Cant wait to see yours finished - got soooo much room, damn well impressed.

Where do you get your fibreglass stuff from ? Im gonna need a crap load of resin, matt and release agent as im doing my install soon

Bro this is a f*kin awsome install!
i love it!
nice work
im thinking of doing a sub install in my car but with the limited space the GTO has in the boot area im finding it harder and harder.
what do you think about removing the rear seats for a sub install cause i dnt really want the seats anyways
lol
FRE5H - hope you're good with fibreglass. Also - you'll need to go to the RTA and have yours re-rego'd as 2 seater (and you'll get a nice new shiny plate to put inplace of your current 4 seater ADR plate).
Other than that - you can look at small 10" subs (which in a GTO should be more than enough) I'de prefer these over shallow mount. Hell some good 10" subs can work in 1/2 cuft of internal space :woot:

grrr
so hate having 4 seats lol
plus my lil mascot from the old car is still riding up back so i was gunna try to mould a lil seat for him
hehe
but its an idea for now.
i have two twelves which i had from the rada also but like i said its just a lil hard to fit em in the boot. if i dnt do the rear seat conversion id atleast like a nice boot install.

Hey mate, have a look at the pioneer sub they made for confined spaces, ie; utes and stuff. Might be an idea if your space concious.
Woob,
Again great work on the install and also agree on putting a grill over the sub.
cheers guys, atm i am extremely careful when things go in the boot. unfortunately, sourcing a JL grill is freaking hard these days. if anyone can help out it'd be much appreciated, but it seems there are grills floating around for every model out there apart from the 10W6V2.
Sub hasnt really copped any scratches since ive owned it, the flash exposes a few streaks that are very much not noticable in person however.
hoping to make a start with the interior trimming this weekend, if i start it, chances are ill finish all but the A pillars (which need to be modified before trimmed).
Will try to keep you updated as things happen!
also in that floor compartment, i now house a socket set, a set of jumper leads, and my new gas soldering iron.. turned out to be the perfect size for stuff :D
got the doors trimmed today, wasnt expecting much being plain black but damn you can tell the difference between cheap and expensive meterial, sexy as :D pics asap

moral of my story.. expensive material creams all over cheap crap. $55 per meter for this stuff and i'd gladly pay that amount, if not more again.

Guessing as its dark, i know i had huge trouble taking pics of my suede door cards.
Only thing i would change woob, would be paint that little surround where the seat belt goes into the c pillar, the light grey looks really outta place
Finally some more pics and less fail :P
Nice work - looks a bit like carpet in shot 2, but looks like suede in shot 3 (C pillars), and looks different again in the first shot lol
Whats the material called?
Did you end up sourcing that sub grill?
edit: p.s im envious of the doors and interior :P
Mine looks ghetto, and will continue to look ghetto - no one will insure my stereo :( just need wooly seat covers for my car to complete the look.
yea i agree but im VERY anti painting, painting bits in a car is the quickest way to make it look P plater spec imo. ill consider dying it, but that can waitg for now. also have the sun visors and handles that will need doing. visors will prolly be trimmed.
material.. im not sure what its supposed to be called.. its actually meant for trimming seats so its really tough stuff, its a very black material usually, but under the right light it shines like it does in the pics, imo this is what makes it look good. kinda thing you have to see in person i guess.
Sometimes camera's dont take great pics of somethings - as I said it looks good in 1st and last pic, 2nd pic for some reason turned out wierd.
Also - what adhesive do you use?
twlvlksjstlky
06-05-2009, 09:24 PM
it'd look perfect with chrome handles!
Bostik Anchor Weld #2701. if your going to use Bostik, dont use any lower quality than the 2701 as they dont react to heat quite so well.

WOW nice car, once im finished yr 12 exams n shit ill be doin a heap of work to my boot, mines pretty much stock wit an amp n sub so ill buy sum new equipment, with your LED lighting in your boot, did u cover up the holes in the wood with perspex or anything or just let it shine through the gaps?
Cheers mate. The holes are covered in 6mm cloudy glass. Only last week I actually got around to finishing the boot. Everything trimmed, just waiting on fixing up the lighting and doing the roof now :)

26-09-2010, 10:49 PM
whats the finish result?
Thought I should mention that one of the amps was being a bitch, so I replaced them both with these.
http://members.westnet.com.au/woobie/images/jbl_amps.jpg
The quality difference is ridiculous to the sub, getting used to running the sub off a 4 channel I had forgotten to appreciate how much better a sub sounds off an amp with a good buffer!
And the different that my crossover settings made with the new amps was insane, it showed that Eclipse amps produce filtered sound whether you have the settings turned on or off which really annoys me.
I have always loved the sound from JBL Crown amps, but the sounds that these cheaper series produce really did surprise me, I highly rate them!
