I think most double din units offer all of that besides the internal HDD (Not that I've looked into them any time soon)

pretty sure pioneer have something on offer that would meet your needs. It costs about the same as a 5yr old magna though....

EDIT: You can always just get a unit with a rear usb connection (cable that runs to the glove box) and plug in a 32gb usb stick (roughly $80-100 (very rough)) or a 250gb portable hard drive that runs on usb power only for about $130-$150

There's only 1 JVC deck that offers a HD.

Personally, HD's are not the future. SD cards, USB's, flash drive's are the future. Less likely to fail given how rough the roads are (especially in Sydney :P )

I would go for something along the lines of this JVC: No hard drive, but has USB, Ipod, and SD card slots.

http://lifestylestore.com.au/products/car/JVC/dvd/kwavx800/

Use the AV input from a GPS unit and you are set. Will support reversing camera aswell.

Plus it has 5V pre-outs (rarity on most touch screen's)

SSD's (solid state drives) are the future. :P

closest would probably be the Eclipse AVN6000

only thing i think it would be missing is the internal HDD

Thats right, it is JVC with the hdd.

A someone else said above, solid state drives are the way to go (usb thumb drive, sd card etc...)

if your after some mega storage, get one that will take a SDHC (high capacity) card and you can put in any sd card over 2gb. if its only sd and not sdhc it will only read 2gb and under. Panasonic will have their 64gb sdhc cards available soon too

eclipse do a HDD version of the AVN series. unfortunately it's only sold in the US. I'm still trying to get my Aussie maps working in the my 6610 I picked up in the states, but if I get it sorted, it's definitely worth grabbing one.

something like $600US. man, that's cheap as!

cheers,

pioneer make one that has everything you said you wanted....

its pretty good except i hate adjusting volume with a button, much prefer spin the wheel thing.

As above, it is called the Pioneer AVIC-HD3. It can be yours for upwards of $3k depending on where you shop/who you know etc. As for the button volume adjustment, I have a Pioneer steering wheel remote mounted to the hub of my wheel and it controls the HU nicely. Still buttons, but you don't have to look down for them.

my JVC has USB cable in the glovebox (no nav though) and its awesome! no disc noise (most car disc drives are pretty quiet anyway, but its a nice bonus) i think it even scans and plays a little faster than reading of a CD or DVD

not sure what the biggest USB dongle out there is, but 4GB does me fine!

i was considering using a USB HDD, but that would involve setting up a separate USB plug for power duties and would also take up more space in the glovebox

i agree, a dongle or a 4/8gb sd card is fine. how much music you need before your gonna be home to change it?
mine takes memory stick pro and i have an 8gb. for long trips away from my laptop (very rare) i use the ipod.

8 is the normal maximum for most stores, however, because i look after the ordering for this section where i work (and i like to keep everything new and cool except ipods) , we keep 16gb, and 32gb. 32gb is the current max, soon you will be able to get 64's. 64's are only available from amacroe atm, but they are terrible quality and when the customer pays around $150 for a 64gb usb stick, they get pretty pissed when it stops working (as you would be.... lol )

most usb inputs on dvd players have some sort of limit to how many songs you can have ( ie clarion has max 255 songs in 255 folders...65025 songs)
as for what you are chasing there are quite a few dvd players that can hookup touchscreen sat nav to these days with a product from Hi-Tv
rough prices with the new clarion max687 (with usb and bluetooth) with touch screen nav is around $2100
and with the alpine Iva-W502 is around $2800
both products work very well and have not had any problems with any that i have fitted as yet

If you ahve a look at the current JVC Double DIN deck (http://www.jvc-australia.com/JVC/client/c_products_details.jsp?catID=28&prodID=372) it has a rear USB plug that can be used for a USB thumb drive OR an external HDD (that can be powered by USB). So you can plug it in to that and mount it somewhere.

only problem with USB HDD's is they need 2 USB plugs (one for power, one for data) so you'll need to hard-wire another on in somewhere (probably not that hard, but i couldn't be stuffed!)

a 2-way USB splitter unfortunately can't be used either, as apparently they can't supply enough voltage

I sell buffalo ($149rrp) and asus ($199rrp) branded portable externals at work, both 250gb, and both will work with only 1 usb plugged in. if you plug in the 2nd usb, it will run faster and is more user friendly for transferring large files, however, for this sort of application, only one usb wouldnt be a problem.

my external hdd doesnt need a second usb for power.
just the one usb for everything..
its a 360gb travel drive.. something, forget what brand, from hardly normal...
its not too much bigger than a phone.

Gotta say in my year with a Car PC I haven't had any trouble with my cheapy Samsung 250GB HDD.

If you get a unit with a USB connection, just load an 2.5" External HDD up with stuff, cheap and easy.

Some computers will power it with just one, some won't. If you can't get the drive to power properly off one of those headunits, you can wire up one of those USB Cigarette Lighter chargers behind the dash to connect the second USB cord to power.
