so i have an Executive, so they dont have the ignition light standard.
so i have the piece i need but i cant seem to find anywhere to basically plug it in.
how do i go about this? there is 2 ways i can wire this in, so when i turn on parkers/headlights or when the doors open the light goes on. how do i wire this in? do i need the male part of the connection? inturn, where would that plug in?
anyhelp would be great!

ok so i had a look under the teh steeringwheel, couldnt find a straight connection for the key light.
so im thinking ill either tap into the map light or the ashtray light. i think ill prefer it to come on once i open the door rather than when i turn on the headlamps.
also the forum i was refered to also mentioned the footwell lights, i have found the bulb holders, on the panels but as someone mentioned the TH's have nothing there as far as power source connections, so ill tap into the map light and run the light from there and it should do the job!
------------
i just have one question, if say, i run 1 LED in either footwell, plus the ignition light through the map light will that comprimise the power output to each of the applications?
i did a test directly from the festoon connection in the map light and the light didnt seem to degrade, just wanted to confirm that.
Cheers guys, Steve

Steve,
LED are extremely power-efficient. Running a few LEDS and that tiny bulb for the key-light will have negligible effect on the circuit you tap into.
Where did you grab the key-prism and harness from?
Is it difficult to access in a wreck (or did you pay someone, rather than a self-serve wreckers)?
If you don't mind, how much were those bits?
I agree with your thinking, BTW..... its much more practical to have the key ring light when you open a door and need to put the key in. No point at all when parkers/headlamps are on, and may be distracting or reflect in cluster at night.
Door lamps circuit FTW !!!! (It is very easy to tap-into the door lamp circuit under the A-PILLAR trim).
Cheers, Phil.
PS: I think you were referred to "footwell lights" Threads, cos they mention how to tap into the "door-lamps/room-lamp/map-light" circuit (different names for the same thing) - which is what you want to do. Most who install footwell lamps only want them to come on as the doors are open. Same with the mods to have lamps shine from bottom of open doors onto the ground (to show puddles, dog crap etc) - its only sensible to have these illuminate while a door is open. Tapping into the wires under the A-pillar trim on drivers side is very very easy.

Elwyn thankyou for the information and confirming that for me.
its definately more practical to have the footwell and the key light illuminate once the doors open.
key-prism and harness off a verada at the wreckers. its fairly easy to take off, pull off the panel underneath the steerting wheel (if not already), take off the small ignition panel, there are 2 screws underneath that will release the prism and just unplug the cable.
not sure how much i paid as i got it in the $99 all you can carry special at Jollys, but i would say no more than $15

well i successfully wired up the key light and the footwell light. auto barn only had 1 T10 buld holder so i could only do the drivers side, ill have to get a 2nd one tomorrow night.
just tapped into the map light as i mentioned from the A pillar.

Holy crap - those lights look bright!! But very NOICE.
Just an FYI, if you get to a self-serve wrecker - the bulb-holders and even the footwell lenses (white translucent plastic) from 2nd Gen cars also suit the openings in the 3rd Gens.
Only proviso is that you might need 2 lenses from the same side of a 2nd Gen to suit 3rd gen - IIRC 2nd gen has a diff lens for driver and passenger, but 3rd gen need two lenses of same type. Hazy memory here - others may correct me.
The Genuine bulb holders are pretty neat too, the t10 bulb holder is a kinda L-shaped piece, and a beaut click-out loom connector attaches straight on (I have found this helps with bulb changes, you can disconnect loom right at the bulb holder, pull the whole thing out to change bulb etc. I have most trouble refitting the bulb holder into the cutouts in the lower dash panels - lots of sweat and swearing until I can make the darn things go in right!!
The mods look great, as does the red lights (inspires me a bit, as have red-dial Sports .... maybe I should do more colour code - have only red footwells, maybe need to do dash air-con, etc)

the lights are fairly bright, but not as bright as the image shows, i think the first was a 1second exposure and the 2nd a 3 second exposure. but to giveyou an idea of brightness, the dials for the air con are standard, so the key light fits in nicely
i read about that, with the 2nd gens fitting in 3rd gen, i will check this out tomorrow morning, at the moment i only have a T-10 wedge connection from autobarn, and thats made out of rubber so i managed to stick it in the twist lock on the panel below the steering wheel.

Does that mean that the footwell lights come on when you manually turn the map light on, i.e when the doors are closed? Cheers. JM

no, when you turn the map light on manually it has a separate switch where the globe sits. the footwell and ignition lights only comes on when you unlock the car, or open the doors

Ahk, yer was thinking itd be pretty cool if the footwell lights came on when u did turn the map light on, but i guess it would take some different wiring to do it. Cheers mate. JM

you could wire the footwell lights it to the festoon holder in the roof (but it would get pretty messy in that tight spot) then run the wires down the A-pillar. or you could have a separate switch elsewhere.
