Sure will, and if you can your hands on a M8 or M9 all the better

are there any benefits to it? I know my head has been reconditioned, and had a valve grind, so its in pretty good shape.

what are the differences?

I found it had a bit more power on my old TP, I also used the second gen cam and rockers etc, not sure if it really makes a difference or if it's just because it's new and restoring lost power.

cheers guys, yeah its complete minus cam, so will have to use my old cam which has 320000 on it. im sure its prob a little down on lift, but as long as its not pitted or damaged in any way im sure it will be ok.

will i need to use the tp head gasket kit or the tr-ts kit? is there any difference?

Should be able to use either gasket. The differences between the TR/TS Astron II and the TM/TN/TP Astron II are quite minor and nowhere in the vicinity of the head gasket.

After all, if the heads match up, the gaskets should too. :)

Same gasket

The Astron had a wider block and was also well known for cracking as well The Astron II block is narrow and the head gasket from TM > TS is the same one

The M8 and M9 heads benefit for higher compression as they have the kidney/heart shaped chambers where as the other M series heads are circle therefore will have lower compression.

Its all a bolt on job.

Usually the M9's are easily distinguished by the shape of the combustion chambers. Instead of completely round they should be "kidney shaped". I believe there's also "M8" or "M9" stamped into the head but I think that it may be stamped below where the camshaft sits, so unless it has no camshaft it'll be difficult to see.

That valve regrind set (VRS) looks to be spot on. :)

so i did have a head lined up but it fell through. so just ordered a ts head with the kidney shaped combustion chanmbers which i assume is the m9 (also assuming that the m8 is the teardrop head that came with some tr's). for $480, will also be getting new lifters. do you think its worth having a look around for a ts cam, or will the one from the tp be fine?

if you were in WA mate, i have a brand new M27 head off the last of the 2.6 with the larger valves and all the works here you can have complete for 300. but I dare say freight would be a lil? PM me if need be, cheers

lol, that would be right. do they fit?
id say that once freight gets added on it will prob be around $400, and i wont have any guarentee it will be here by next sat which is the last chance i have to do the swap.
thanks for the offer though

Yeah mate, the head would be a straight bolt on and I can garentee the head is not warped. which is quiet common on the 2.6's

I have read that they were replacement heads from Mitsubishi. So if you went to a dealer for a head from m1-m-6, you got an m27.

Dont know how true it is:blah:

Also read that they were the Japanese version of the Astron II head. So that would mean later Scorpions, 2.6 Starions etc.

Take tour pick:roflwtf:

If you want a good 2.6 block, find a messed up scorpion. They were imported 2.6 (or whole cars) and had much much better castings in the metal and webbing for cooling as opposed to using magna blocks.

Yes they are a good engine. Mitsubishi still used this engine in the U.S. Starion and other Dodge varieties through to 1989. Our Astron II is slightly narrower and didnt have the balance shaft covers. The 85 Sigma GN had the same basic Astron II as the 85 Magna TM. Plenty of Sigma owners are running Magna motors with the necessary front Timing cover / water pump and the Sigma cam.

While talking heads, I have noticed a guy selling the Pajero heads on ebay.

Dont get one for your Magna. The Pajero, as well as the Astron ll Sigma heads have a very small rear water port, because the water flow is from the front. Magna's have a very large rear water port, because the water is coming into the head from the rear.
