View Full Version : Responce amp not working?

I hooked up my two rear speakers today to my new responce 4x100 amp. As my HU only had one RCA output i have got the HU rca cables running to the responce amp and then another RCA going from the 'RCA out" on the responce to my other pioneer amp (which drives a sub). But the subwoofer just wont work!
If I hook the pioneer (running sub) straight up to the HU RCA, then it works fine, but when i hook it up to the responce and then from the RCA out to the pioneer it doesnt work.
All of the High/ low pass filters seem to be fine (Low pass on pioneer and high pass on responce etc).
All i can think of is that either the responce amp just isnt sending the signal out from the 'RCA out', or that the signal is very minimal when it reaches the pioneer amp because it has been through such long RCA cables.
Is there a switch for the 'RCA out' of the responce amp to make it work?

Have you put a remote wire to both amps from the deck? Both amps will need a remote wire to be told to switch on even though you have both amps connected by RCA's

Yep, Both the amps are on, but the pioneer amp just isnt receiving any signal from the responce amp! :(

The only other thing i can think of is using RCA splitters from HU RCA and not using the RCA out on the response amp.
That way both amps should work properly.

If the pioneer has an output aswell try it the other way around, also if its a 4 channel amp maybe its something to do with only having 1 pair RCA's to input rather than 2 pairs (4 channels).

mate go out and buy a deck with 3 pre-outs, saves you in the long run
or you normally get a plug that goes into the amp with 4 wires hanging out, you normally use this if you dont have any pre-ours on your deck
you'll need to join these wires with the correct ones on the back of the deck (speaker wires)
pretty sure you can only loop the same type of amos

Well I would prefer not to do this as i have already split the rca for the responce amp (needed two RCA's for 4 channels) and so splitting again prob wouldnt be good for the signal. I could be wrong though.
Replacing the HU isnt really an option as I only got mine a few months ago for a bday present, so parents might be a little hurt if i went out and bought a new one. You know how parents are.
The annoying thing is that the pioneer doesnt have an RCA out so i cant even switch round the amps to get it to work! Rggg
Anyway, Im gonna head down to JB prob tommorrow (I think they are now open on sunday) and get some splitters and line filters (new tweeters have a hissing sound)! I shall report on how it goes tommorrow!
Thanks for the help guys!

Run an RCA to each of the 4 inputs in the Jaycar amp and the output on the amp will send a bypass signal to the Pioneer amp fine. Done it many times. Since you are running all the speakers off amps, you could use a low level converter to create a second set of RCA's on either the front or rear speaker outputs. Output from the Jaycar will create your 3rd pair for the sub amp.
Tweeter hiss more likely to be from bad placement of RCA's or Xovers.

Im in the same boat with the splitting, but havent hooked up my sub amp yet because i still havent got my subs
i only got my h/u a bit ago (Alpine CDE-9872e) so i cant replace anyway, bit annoying really, when I bought it i was under the impression it was a pretty damn good h/u. It is good but things like the RCA's and no aux in, only ipod in are the downfalls
what h/u are you running?

Jvc Kd-PDR35. It has ipod and aux in, but only has one RCA out
Anyway i got everything working today! :D Turns out the 'RCA out' on the responce amp will only work when you are using the 'RCA in' for the '1/2 channel' at the same time.
Its a little messy but here is how i have it set up now.
RCA from headunit split into two. One is going to the sub amp and the other one into the 1/2 channel on the responce amp. Then the 'RCA out' of the responce is going into the 'RCA in' of the '3/4 channel' on the responce. So everything is working fine now! :D
Thanks guys for the help.
