Howdy all;
Im looking around for a new CD/Mp3 player for my girlfriends yarris (or my new car if i decide to take the offer) and after trawling through the net all day ive come across a couple on ebay, one being
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/675-7-TFT-LCD-CAR-IN-DASH-TV-MONITOR-FM-CD-DVD-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ360124147592QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_ Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item360124147592&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1308
And the other is pretty much the same. She is after a 2 DIN so its going to fit properly in the dash (same with the prospect car for me) with no gaps.
So my question is does anyone have one like this and are they any good?
Also how hard are they to install your self, ive had a quick look and it looks pretty easy but i just want to be sure
All help is apprecialted
Cheers

You get what you pay for mate. These units are cheap and nasty and if you get a year out of it consider yourself Lucky. I know you can get a brand new Kenwood Slide out touchscreen DVD player etc for about $500 new now (single DIN)
But yeah. Nasty Nasty units.
If you want an AIO and don't care about sound quality - Check this out: http://eonon.com/index.php?controller=Default&action=ProductDetails&pid=115#sc
There are a couple of members on here with Eonon setups, they say the quality isnt too bad for the price...

They are cheap but not worth your money.
When i bought my TJ it had an EANON touch screen double din fitted, sound quality was terrible and after a few days the touch screen function stopped working so settings could not be changed. Also when playing a DVD the colours were all wrong and looked like ***. I pulled the piece of crap out and fitted a simple nice looking kenwood single din.
I would not recommend buying one of these. You will regret it when it craps itself and sounds like **** untill then.

If this was the case, then surely you could get an aftermarket replacement faschia that allows you to install a single DIN headunit? I know I've seen similar for VY Commodores.

Howdy all;
So the consensus is that these H/U's are garbage na dshould be avoided.

I have been told that the repalcement has to be a 2 DIN and nothing else will be good enough
Now its a matter of looking for a suitable one in my price range (slim pickings at the moment due to slow work but thats another thread in itself)

Wow shes picky if she only wants a double DIN HU.
You can get replacement pockets that fill in the gap made for that vehicle....
But yeah....Not much under $500 in terms of a good Double DIN HU

i would prefer a double din unit, flip out dvd head units will cover up important things like air con controls if you put it in the top din and if you put it in the lower din it will cover up the top din meaning you have to close the unit to get ya wallet out.
also im not a fan of moving parts in a touch screen unit. the pressure of pushing the screen would surely do damage to the gears over time.
double din ftw

Ive just been told that she isnt picky she just knows what she wants
At the moment even $500 is a stretch. Like i said work is really really slow
Im looking at a JVC from strathfield that ive just found and i know a guy who works there so ill talk to him and see if i can get it cheeper, apart from that ill be waiting a while unless i find a real cheep second hand one (of reliable brand).

Second that i hate it when my window fogs up as all the controls are behind my flip out screen

My wife has a Yaris too, and theres nothing wrong with the system in hers. Plays MP3 and even plays her Ipod. Have you looked at the Audio from Toyota fo the yaris? You can get them now with Sat nav, touchscreen and 6 indash disc changer, MP3 and Ipod compatible all in 1.
And the facia on the Yaris is a bit rounded on the edges so finding an aftermarket unit that fits properly will be a bit hard.

Go to Andrews Car Audio at Jesmond. He is doing double din pioneer units with just about every option for $700 fitted. Even the single din flip out ones by pioneer are getting better as I've just upgraded from my soundstream deck. Even have the option now when u can have the screen folded in and can still view what song is playing etc. Pay the money first up and it will definitely be cheaper in the long run if you plan to keep the car for a while.

andrews car audio is the only place in newcastle that i trust to do my car audio, theres no way im letting those 17yr olds at jb hifi or strathfield touch my car (i remember how halfassed i was at that age)

Thanks for recommending him dude. They were awesome to deal with! Said the wiring Bro Sound did was the worst they have ever seen. So once the blower is on, it will be going back, being gutted and started from scratch. Only wasted about $1000 install from Bro Sound....:rant:

Wow, you trust OTHER people to do your audio!?
Tuning/fabricating maybe, but installing is a HELL NO!

Most places just twist and tape or use those ****** piggy back clips, fastest ways the cheapest way. Thats why you take the time and do it yourself.

Howdy all;
I agree with MAD35L. This guy is very very good at his job. He has done a couple of installs for me in previous cars and he and his other offsider are always willing to give advice and small parts away for nothing.
As for the yarris unit i went in today and asked for the prices and the apprentice/new guy crashed the spares computer and could only tell me that they have none and they would have to order a new one in no idea on price yet.
Cheers

I'll vouch for this. Unlike a lot of places he actually checks before they just go ahead and do it. I got a new head deck with all the bells last week, and he rang me about 3-4 times that day to see if i wanted him to get rid of all the RCA connecters/loose wires etc rather than other places I've heard of that just cut holes in the dash/door trims to mount tweeters. Not to mention unexplained extra 50km on the odometer since you dropped it off! I do my audio in all my cars other than the magna simply due to the complexity of it (all the screens running etc) and not having the time. Its probably the only decent joint to put your car in for audio in Newy/Hunter.
Tuning/fabricating maybe, but installing is a HELL NO!
Not everywhere is bad at installation...I dare say there's many many places that are better at installing car audio than yourself. Basic installation is easy if you understand the wiring, knowing how and where to place the speakers, what to mount them with etc is something else entirely.
