Whats the go with towing and cruise control? I just got a T-Bar fitted and bought a big caravan (16ft 1100-1500kgs).... Heading down south I put cruise on once up to speed and the car happily changed between 4th and 5th (only really changing to 5th when coasting downhill or flat surface). Once we hit an area will monster hills I took cruise off and kept the car at speed myself.

Should cruise be used towing?

Used it for years with Gtvi towing a 1300Kg boat always at or near the posted speed limit.

Only on relatively flat straight roads tho.

Not good on hilly or windy roads.

Should be using lower gears when going downhill with somthing that big. Gives more control to the car. Its not hard to do especially with a tippy auto.

Good to hear Mike, Vlad I have electric brakes fitted and it seems quite good - before I had the brakes fitted I towed the van home empty without brakes and I used the gears to assist in slowing down.

Someone told me I should fit an aftermarket transmission cooler also ... ? Does the radiator not cool the tranny oil enough?

Not when you are towing over a ton and constantly changing gears and going up/down hills.

Been towing my 1200kg camper trailer around a lot with the 380.
Always use cruise but comming up to a decent hill it can kick baut to far and rev its pants off. So have always switched on when getting hilly.

Never had any tranny problems

Towed with my last two Veradas with no additional transmission cooler and never had a trans problem.

Have Towed 2400 Klm round trip to the Whitsundays each year for the last 10 years and regularly tow 300 Klms round trip to get to Moreton Bay or the Gold Coast. (Water is a long way from here!!!)

Last car I had for 180,000 Klms and this one 100,400Klms so far

Additional cooler can"t hurt although I personally wouldn't bother given my experience.

Cheers

Thanks for your input people :)

I'll keep using cruise control when on flat terrain and I think the tranny cooler can wait until the car is out of warranty :P
