Morning all!
Just been searching around but i'm un-able to find much regarding this but anyone who currently has a rear spoiler, whether it be the GT or Rally Art spoiler on their 380, that didn't come with the vehicle able to offer any advice on where to look/seek out a piece in Victoria?
Any suggestions would be great.
Cheers

Benz0rz, Go into any Mitsubishi dealership parts area and ask for the spoiler from a 380 Series III VRX.
I have had this same spoiler installed on my 380, also get the chrome strip that runs between the tail lamps from the 380 LX.

I must say that I agree. The lip spoiler of the S1 and S2 on the GT/VRX looks much better IMHO but then that's why I got the VRX. The S3 VRX spoiler is too much like every other manufacturer that uses this design and they look too "over the top". Mind you I don't mind the lower rear "meshed" treatment on the S3 VRX but this is a straight swap for the earlier versions I am told. Cheers...

i think the lip spoiler on the 380's looks great!
either that or no wing at all IMO
correct me if i'm wrong but i think you need new taillights to match the lip though...

I agree.. im not a fan of the big ones..
Im pretty sure theres are a couple variants on the lip spoilers, you can get the one thats straight at the ends (but then you need the vrx lights) or you can get this one... (it curves in at the ends)
Would be interesting to see how the VRX lights would look with the curve in lip though.. Might be ok?

Yes there are 2 lip spoilers.
The VRX/GT one is full length and mates up with the VRX/GT tail lights which continue the wing shape.
The other lip spoiler curves in at the ends and matches the non-VRX/GT tail lights (ie base model, ES, LS, etc) which is a different shape and does not have the extended lip shape on top.
In short, you can't (or really shouldn't) do one without the other (ie VRX/GT tail lights with the non-(or no)VRX/GT spoiler - would look funny. You'd need to have a good look at both model cars to understand it.
The other thing is the expense... I considered doing the full upgrade to my car, but all parts are around $1,000 - which I deemed too expensive for a mod that doesn't really do anything... but each to their own.

I think i got quoted $180 each for the tail lights... Wish i could see if they looked any good with the curve in spoiler though.. then it would only be $360 total (provided i install them myself) :P

My quote included the black-lined headlights too.
You couldn't put the VRX/GT tail lights with your curved lip spoiler, 'cos the spoiler ends curve back into the bootlid/body... but then when the tail lights begin, another lip ridge is on their top waiting to meet the straight-edged spoiler which you don't have. I'm not saying you cannot do this... but it wouldn't match properly.
I'll attach some pics tomorrow (unless someone else beats me to it) to explain it further.

each to their own - personally i like the larger spoiler over the lip one - but that is my personal taste. I dont really see the point to the small lip ones. Mine was ordered when I bought the car so cant really help in this regard but if u rang a dealer perhaps they could guide you in the right direction. ?????

I enquired about the spoiler and chrome trim for some of the US Galant boys back in May last year at a dealership, here's the part numbers and prices I was given:
MR936065 - Rear Spoiler (high mount) primed unpainted $260.20
7405A065 - Rear Bootlid Chrome Garnish $69.00

Does anyone have any idea of how much it would cost for a quality spray to suit the car would cost?
Just an all-round ball-park figure would be great.

Here's a pic of the VRX/GT tail light assembly. If you understand the difference now between the 2 tail lights, that's good - but here's the pic anyway.
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/grubco/380-80.jpg
As you can see the lip spoiler here doesn't curve in to the sides like your does, and the tail light assembly has a lip spoiler shape on top of it, to match the spoiler, unlike your tail lights. That's the difference, but as to whether it would look good or not (with VRX/GT tail lights against curved-edge lip spoiler), that's up to you the car owner. Personally I wouldn't do it and would prefer to go the whole hog and do the head lights, tail lights, and full length lip spoiler... but for less than the cost of all that you can have all the basic engine/exhaust mods I (and other users here) already have.
Anyhow it's your decision, I didn't mean to sway you either way.

haha.. i understood the difference all along buddy, but thanks all the same.. Id just like to see how it would look is all.. So if i do decide to go ahead and do it, ill just install the lights and see how it looks.. If its awful (which it probably will be) ill have to upgrade the spoiler as well.. Im guessing it fits on using the same holes..

Yeah I like the VRX/GT tail light too... but I don't like that you must upgrade the spoiler too. If I didn't already have one (boot lid spoiler) I'd consider it, but I'd be chucking out the curved-edge one I already have. No thanks. I also wondered why they/someone didn't make a VRX/GT tail light without the top-edge lip. Still no Altezza's available?

Ah okay. I'm sure the VRX/GT tail lights without any spoiler would look aweful... with your curved-edge spoiler would probably still look odd in that a body line does not flow the full length. But its your car so go for it.

You mean out of alignment with the boot? Or coming away from the boot? Either case, not that I'm aware of. I washed it yesterday and didn't notice anything, but I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

Actually coming away from the boot. I was told that because of it being a black car the heat causes the double sided tape to lift off.....poor excuse I thought.

Had a good look and there's nothing loose or open, re the bootlid spoiler. That is troublesome news though, being that my car is black too. Though my car is NEVER parked outdoors in the sun; at home its garaged, and at work its undercover. I guess and hope that counts for something (I'd like to keep that original nice black as long as possible).

I stand corrected... I had a closer careful look at my lip spoiler, and on the very ends (which it comes in to a point), there is a gap where the rubber seal has gone (eroded?), leaving the plastic to lift up minutely. Its only about 2mil so far, but thanks for bringing it to my attention (I probably never would have noticed). I'll certainly keep an eye on it now in case it gets worse.
Did you need your spoiler replaced? Or just reattached?

I actually had to get it replaced 5 times! Every time they replace it tho, new scratches appear. Got them to fix those too, so all they did was use black polish....took it straight back and got hem to respray the WHOLE boot!

Wow, so I take it the spoiler itself warps as well (if it needs replacing rather than just reattaching). That sounds nasty... But I'm thinking, if I did have to replace the whole spoiler, I might get the straight-edged VRX/GT one instead, as I'd already be halfway to the tail light conversion. But I'm definately not hoping/waiting for my spoiler to go bad on me.

Sh00t,
Just got a brand new strip from my local dealer, $52 (not $95).
Grubco,
Installed it myself, took only an hour, and that's after I was very very careful with measuring & drilling the holes.
Looks great & was a snack to install.
Only tools needed are a ruler, marking pen & drill with 6.5 or maybe 7mm wood/steel bit.
I used a small bit first to drill starter holes, and the biggest bit I had was 6.5mm which turned out to be a fraction too small, so I had to wobble it around just a little to make the holes big enough for the clips.
I tested what size bit I needed by drilling a hole in a scrap piece of metal and checking what size it needed to be for a clip to seat without having to use excessive pressure.
KJ.

That would look like one of the recent (AU?) Ford XR8s that also had a double wing-spoiler thing (first body-color one, then second black on above).
I guess the high-mounted spoiler that Mitsubishi wanted to use on the 380 VRX is also the reason why they dumped the Series 1 & 2 VRX/GT tail lights... because those tail lights need the intergrated lip spoiler, but they want to use the higher one instead. As just observed, they could use both... but I can't imagine that it would make for a good look.

Cheers Grub, i do agree with you. Although, i think even w/out the chrome strip but with the lip spoiler, it doesn't look as good, imo, the lip spoiler tends to drag it out too much thus giving a more relaxed look...

You mean the rounded lip spoiler? Like mine.
As for cost, I don't know - but the whole VRX/GT headlight+tail lights upgrade was discussed here years ago... at that time the straight lip spoiler was $220 unpainted, so my type is probably the same.

Thanks. Not sure what you meant by "burn marks" - either sunburn/fade or tyre burn-out marks, but there's little of either. It is almost never parked in direct sunlight, and burn-outs are never done (some take-off chirps maybe, but that's all).
I took a heap of photos that day just after it was washed... a black car doesn't stay that clean, spotless, and shiney for long (but while it does, it's worth it!).

Sorry to dig this thread up but I thought it's better than starting a new one for a simple question. I got my 45k service yesterday and had the garnish ordered in for me to pick up at the same time. I asked them to quote on how much for them to install and they said $160! And I was like wtf its only a couple of holes to drill? And they told me yes, but you need to seal it after you drill it so that it doesn't rust and you have to wait hours for that to dry. That kind of makes sense. What I'm asking is did anyone who DIY install do that, and do people think it's worth doing?
Edit: Sorry it probably wasn't clear what I was referring to. I'm talking about the Chrome Boot Garnish:

http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/8396/21082009071.jpg
For anyone thinking of doing it. This will save you some time:
I used a 4mm drill for pilot holes (smalle would probably be better). And 7mm drill for final hole.
1. Find centre of boot along crease. Go down 22mm and this is your centre hole. Make sure you measure the boot width to find centre. Don't go of your Mitsu badge. It turns out my Mitsu badge is about 8mm to the right of centre!
2. Measure 220mm left and right and once again 22mm down from the crease for your next two holes.
3. Measure 220mm out again and 22mm down for the next holes.
4. If you are unsure of where you are going to drill, cover the ends of the plugs with nikko, line up the trim with where it needs to go and push against the boot. This will leave black dots where you need to drill. Keep in mind the plugs move around a little so if you 1 or 2mm out it will not cause any dramas.
I then coated the inside of the holes with nail polish and let it dry to seal it (see above post). I'm not sure if this will do the trick or if this will rub off when the plugs go in the hole. But oh well.
I had a small issue with the garnish lifting away from the boot on one end. I used pliers and pulled the plug from the inside of the boot and it clipped in properly and fixed that.
Here is the finished result:

I wouldn't advise it. It's naturally tendancy is to peel away at the ends because it is not curved at exact same angle as the boot so is under 'tension'. It come with double-side tape already on it, and by not having one of the plugs all the way in it was peeling at one end by itself straight away.
