Hoping for some urgent help, I just had my car serviced and battery checked last week, I mentioned I had been having problems with the car not starting and to check and replace the battery if needed. Mechanic said its not the battery (so much for service they couldnt tell me what it might be). Its still happening and the neighbours must be sick of me getting them to do a jump start.

No lights etc...are being left on to drain the battery and its random as to when it will or wont start which leads me to thinking its not the battery running flat but something else. All the Radio etc work and can hear clicking but no engine start. Can anyone suggest what it might be and how i can fix it?

Disconnect battery overnight - reconnect in the morning and see if it starts.

Could be overnight power drain, like a boot light staying on. Had brake lights that stayed on in one car and did this. A multimeter can be used to check for drain with everything turned off. If it still doesn't start, might be a tired starter motor solenoid. If it is an auto try moving the gear lever while the key is in the start position. If it fires its the gear selector switch.

^^^ this is my bet.... OR check the battery terminals, may need a clean.

check the brown wire from BCM to ECU and make sure of good contact.

Thanks for your help guys,

Ive tried the ideas you mention but still wont start (bloody pissed of at the Maggi at the moment - to make matters worse some dick in the carpark left a nasty gash in my rear passenger side door while shopping two days ago!)
Have got it booked into an autoelectrician on Friday, might have to wake the neighbour up early for a jump start to get there tho...

Fingers crossed its just a weak connection somewhere and not something more major!

Cheers
