Hey guys,
You can understand how excited I am right now. My car's ready to start. engine in, all looms/parts connected and ready to go. I bridged the Park and Neutral wires from the Inhibitor switch (Gregorys manual says Black/White and Black/Yellow).
So I connect the battery, all is sweet, I go to turn the key, something makes a mechanical sound (like it used to) turn the key to 'ON' and all I hear is a small click from the fuse box under the hood. Can anyone help? The sooner the better...

check the starter..... did have any probs before the conversion?
That click is probably for the relay in the fusebox.

I've used the starter off the other car which did not have any probs before the conversion (i think) because Istarted the donor car a couple of times with no worries. The starter is only 1 yr old.
I'll try connect up my old one and have a looksee

i dont want to make you do more work than needed, maybe som1 else can chime in.
but i dont see why it shouldnt start.
see problem with old cars is the wires can become brittle and break if moved to far, making a rather large problem if this has happned. hope not.
check to make sure you havent blown a fuse, if you have youll know roughly where to look.
also maksure the battery is getting a good connection. clean terminals. i somtimes get this problem after washing the engine bay. water gets onto the terminals and canleave deposits that make a bad connection. um is the battery ok?

How long has the battery been sitting around for, might just be flat.

Tried with my 3y/o battery, then swapped to a new battery (6 months old) and same thing. Terminals are clean. I'll try swapping the starter over and checking it out. I'll connect it outside-motor and give it a turn and see what happens. Be back soon i'm sure :doubt:

Just make sure the starter is getting power and the relay/solanoid, if its not then the problem is further up the track...

ladies and genitals, the problem is solved.
I bridged the wrong wires:doubt: . I blindly followed the gregorys manual to bridge the wires and i ended up being screwed. The diagram shows a black/white wire that turns into a black/blue wire which is the P wire. the Black/Yellow is the N wire. The black/white dont do anything from the inhibitor switch, so I undid it and did the black/blue and hey presto, we have cranking motion
Thanks to Trotty for the quick replies. Cheers mate.
P.S: Yes, this means project Manual 2G is now 95% complete.

well done man, i had similar problems when i did my elite to manual conversion.
i ended up pulling the inhibitor switch apart and checking against a continuity chart, i had the wires right the whole time... wire had broken elsewhere, fixed that and all was sweet.
reverse lights were an issue too, worked fine in my old car but i couldn't get them working in the elite, i had the wires right, lights came on when i bridged the wires, just wasn't working though. replaced the sensor in the gearbox and on came the lights :D
out of curiosity now, does anyone know how many auto-only 2nd gens have been converted to manual??
how many elites? how many veradas?
