View Full Version : Exhaust: Cat to Flange - is Std/Verada different to Sports?

Okay, Have tried searching a load of "exhaust" threads - most focus on rear muffler or resonators.

My situation is this: Have a KJ Verada with reasonable rear muffler, but intermediate Exhaust pipe (midpipe?) is fairly shot - at the bend around fuel tank and also the resonator (seems like its beyond patching-up with a MIG etc).

I have wondered about replacing the std/Verada pipe with a TJ Sports intermediate pipe - its meant to be bigger diameter, right?

However, Mits Spares can only tell me that KJ and TJ-Sports spares are a different part number, they cannot tell me if its possible to substitute a TJ-Sports (or VRX for that matter) onto the KJ Verada. The diagram on their parts system looks identical with the different part number noted.

One aftermarket catalogue I have seen in a shop, shows a quite different shaped intermediate pipe - like the Sports is not only a larger diameter, but also a straighter path under the car. THAT diagram seems to imply that Sports has different CAT and maybe different engine-pipe(s), and that the CAT might sit in a different position...... which would imply putting a Sports pipe under a Verada may be a complete hassle.

Does anyone know one way or the other, if a Sports Midpipe can be a bolt-on to a KJ Verada (series 1).... my plan would be to keep CAT if possible, add Sports bigger midpipe now, and then when rear muffler craps-out I'd go for a higher-flow rear muffler (Lukey etc), but for now I'd keep the KJ rear muffler and get a run out of it.

Sigh at more damn exhaust threads

all 3.5l zorsts are the same, only difference is the rear box from the standards to sports/vrx oh and the ralliart has a slightly different resonator and HM headers.

everything else is EXACTLY the same

As above,

The only differences were between the 3.0 and the 3.5 engine pipes, the 3.5 ones will go on a 3.0 but the flex pipe will do overtime due to them being a different length from the maniflolds.

I think from memory the TH onwards was different in length from the cat as the cat was longer? Can not remember exactly but I remember coming across this once.

As for TH onwards for 3.5 though, all parts will interchange with no issues at all (with exception to AWD of course)

Thanks for the info fella's. I'll be a bit more confident now, deciding which way to go. I thought previous threads in here stated that Sports/VRX had bigger pipes - but its only the less-restrictive rear muffler? Sweet.
