Hey fellas

getting a custom bent exhaust put on the wagon next monday.

Just wanted to ask a quck one. I want it to sound pretty loud. but the missus doesnt want to "have to talk over it" in the car. lol. women.

anyway, can u really hear it that much from inside? ive never really sat in a car with a decent exhaust system.

cheers

really loud i presume you mean 'rice' loud? If so, then you won't be able to hear yourself think when inside the car. Have you thought about getting a nice sounding system put on rather than just loud?

it might be just me... but my modified pacemakers/metal cat/redback bolt on 2.5" mandril system (under $200 trade for the cat back system) sounds awsome.. has the right volume, no drone on cruise.. and has a very very 'tuned' sound to it, like a bmw M3..

i would just get the 2.5" mandril system.. there cheap.. bolt on.. and sound great.. if it's too quiet.. have the center 'striaght' through muffler taken out..

yeh na i dont want rice loud. i want it to sound decent. probly a nice rumble on idle. and a decent sound higher up the rev range, but i dont want it to be too obtrusive inside.

Spose if i just explain that to the guys when i get it done they can sort something out? or am i asking too much?

I have got a simple bolt-on muffler made by Tuffy. I believe it is very similar in design to the Lukey/Sports mufflers but has a different sound to it. It rumbles on idle, it doesnt drone and it sounds bloody nice between 3000-5000rpm. The stock exhaust system is pretty good as standard, it was just the muffler on the exec models that was uber restrictive sound and performance wise.

my exhaust system is something of a one off and looks like it could be very loud...and was. but now i got a larger centre resonator put in and its got a really nice sound to it and when i plant my foot ppl know the car has some balls. however, you can hear it in the car...spesh in the back seat. but i am still able to have a convo in there. like all cars with an exhaust system, you will have to adjust the volume of convo slightly, and i suspect that missus definition of talking over it may differ to your/mine/any car lover lol

Is that why you got it?

when is there not?

we need a bunch of stickies with all the basic info that gets asked all the time like exhausts and CSI's etc in one thread.

what size is best to go for on a n/a 3.5??? i know for bmw's recommended size for 3.0l engines is 2.25 for twins, s2.5 for singles.

if u wanna fork out the extra, get an xforce varex muffler... it has a remote control to change a butterfly valve in the muffler, which changes it from straight thru, to very restricted. Open her up for your day to day driving, close it up for when the missus is in the car... best of both worlds!
if/when i get the exhaust done, it will be the twin tip oval varex muffler, with 2.5" inlet :)

around $400 on ebay i think

Pretty much, honestly I would have left my piping+muffler standard if it wasnt all rusted out. I got my redback delivered from Vic cheaper than a replacement standard exhaust, only reason i did it really.

I have the varex and i find it pretty handy coz i have a gf who doesn't want it on constantly and it's also helpful in the morning when i leave early so i don't disturb people. Then i hold my remote and the butterfly opens up into rawr mode :) cops will never know.. and if they do.. the DPI will think it's been changed muaahahah
