I was ringing around to get a catback exhaust fitted ASAP and i rang 3 places and then quit, the first was AussieExhaust at Albion, my old man and my brother got their stuff though him for various vehicles, just stock work but and dad told me to try them and mention his name as though i'd get some great treatment or something, anyway he quoted me $350 for catback (not inc. cat) 2 1/4 with a LR2779.

Next i rang Mac's Mufflers and this dude was a bit sour on lukey and said they were way back in the technology race and he wanted to sell me off a 'redback turbo muffler' and i said i didnt want some ricey cannon, i wanted a bit better economy and performance without making my car sound like a rather big sheep (or your average ricer car) and he was like 'ah yeh we'll just chuck on a resonator that'll fix it up' and i wasn't too keen on this guy, sounded a bit like a wanker just trying to sell but the aussie exhaust dude was trying to do what i want, anyway aussie exhaust said $350 and macs said $270, with or without a lukey so i rang back aussie and i said, "Look my old man is so-and-so and he told me to go through you and he said you do quality work so im ringing back to say macs quoted $270 for a catback 2 1/4, just seeing what you could do it for" and he said $320 was what he'd do it for and "Put it this way, since your daves kid ill take care of you" so im interested on what THAT means (wether he'll do a good job or take me for a ride and shoot me in the head) but im also thinking of just going a 2" instead of 2 1/4" to lesson the ricer sound but still have higherflow then what ive got on at the moment which is almost falling off aparantly.

I'll have a talk to the dude and see what he says when i get there about 2" or 2 1/4", what you guys rekon, which is better? i think the only perfomance mod, if you could call it this, would be the exhaust system (Getting headers and new cat later on) so would 2" be better and cheaper then the 2 1/4" and of course, lesson the ricer?

what magna do u have? a 3rd gen v6 magna comes with 2.5" mandrel bent already (cept extractors) and the TR/TS come with 2 1/4" mandrel form memory (need some backup fellas, killbilly im looking ur direction) so if u put a 2" pipe cat back wouldnt that restrict your exhaust? the whole point of changing ur exhaust to a lukey is to make it less restrictive hence more power (with the lukey you dont get rice fart noise either) if u got 3rd gen v6 then leave standar piping and just get a lukey with a tip shouldnt be ore then 250? i dunno il lget mine done on day but a 2" pipe would restrict ur exhaust system giving u less power

well i know my TR had a 2 1/4inch standard.....i went and got a 2.5inch CAT back....these prices are a bit high. Mine cost me $220 fitted, without a tip, got a tip for $20. you dont have to get a Lukey, or a Redback, there are plenty of sports mufflers out there that dont have the brand name but do the same job. When yur asking prices, just ask about a High-flow muffler, dont give any names, u'll be suprised at the money you could save.

Yeh, Aussie Exhaust ablion is carline anyway so he is a lukey boy to begin with, i might go for something a bit generic to save on the pocket i guess, he said he'd put a lukey on anyway but i guess he wouldnt put that model on or something, this repco dickhead was telling me the LR2779 is a racing muffler and retails at $280.

I got my Lukey LR2779 for $180 fully installed. Pay around $200 for a good one fully installed and that's all you need for a TP. For $200 I would be looking at window tinting first before a new muffler. Unless of course the stock one is damaged like mine was...

Nah im in queensland, North brisbane.

[Edit] - i went and measured my tip and its 1 3/4" i think... or maybe it was 2", would the factory tip be the same as the rest of the pipe?

i got quoted...

$250 for system piping. (2.5")

$120 for Lukey

then plus watever tip i wanted ( i wanted some twin tip thing, haha the most expensive, like $100)

so i dunno. its good to shop around. but dont pay anymore than about $320 for a complete system with a lukey

Its probally best to either keep the resonator or get a new one, as all the 2.6's ive heard wit out the resonators sounds very ricey(even the ones thats been repiped) but the others ive heard wit the resonators sounds alot better not as loud but way more bassy and better

just a sugestion

i reckon a 2" cat back would be fine for the 4cyl if you're not going to do much else to it... $350 sounds a little bit much $$$ but it depends if its fully mandrel bent or not... i woulda thought $300 would be about the mark since the muffler alone will cost around $180-$200 installed... they'll have to fabricate the cat back part as well which would cost easily an extra $80 bucks!!!

Got my exhaust done today and its alot louder, its great, i love it, the car has a bit of an overkill burble, does it all the time but i guess by the time i get extractors it might kill that a bit but its funner going through gears now :D ended up costing 290 cause the dude couldnt use a LR2779 cause they're for 2nd and 3rd gens which obviously have alot more space to fit it in so i got some obscure number lukey (LMU17605) but it was a high flow, i looked through it and it was on an angle just bent a bit at both ends so it was pratically stright through, about as straight as they'd go i'd imagine, anyway it was 290 and its written here "Discount -96.06" ... wonder what thats for  i bought a chome 3" lukey tip that was 45$ :D **** this 150$ stuff haha, he didnt really have much to choose from but it looks alright, he spraypainted the muffler too .
