I have one and it's relatively easy to install. Old one removed, new one welded on and went to the auto sparky next door to conceal the wire for the remote. Never had a problem. It's fun freaking ppl out by turning on randomly in front of them :D . When it's turned off it's pretty silent and loud and proud on.

yeah they are great and take up no more space then normal mufflers.
They arent a legal solution to excessive noise output but its highly likley they will stop you getting harassed in the first place so they are worth it IMHO

Expected cost? Anyone have a place that does good deals?
I think it'd be just a wish list of mine at the moment because I want to go twins. :doubt:

ive seen them for 380 for the oval type and 400 for the cannon type. They will come down as competitors enter the market they were over 500 when they came out

I just got one fitted and discussed it a little in my member's ride thread :)
In short I'm very happy with it..with it closed it's blissfully quiet, about the same volume as a stock exec. With it open my car is DEAFENING (blower + 3" + only 'hotdog' resos will do that) at WOT, just how I like it when I'm at the track or fanging it a bit.
I really like the way it sounds open, it's amazingly lacking in drone considering how loud/raw sounding my system is at WOT. Highly recomended.

if this goes any further TROTTY let me know. Finally started doing pipe work (yeah i know) and would be interested 1n one for the Rada. I want straight pipes/flutes but the missus will beat the **** outta me. SO its the next best thing

they've been around for a few years, but when they first were released they were just a cannon (from memory anyways), and were rather expensive compared to how much they are now

to get a good noise out of one of these, would need a full exhaust setup or could you just bolt on to stock pipes and still get a beefy note out of it? Cheers. JM

Does anyone have a sound clip of these on a Magna? Not too fussed about the volume, but I'm curious to see how the note compares with others.

Chisholm,
What's the exhaust note like compared to your previous Magnaflow set up?
If anyones interested i may be able to get them cheaper than retail... if theres enought intrest maybe alot cheaper, :badgrin:I'm interested in two of them (2x twin outlets for a twin exhaust set up).
Would depend on price of course (and sometimes how financial I am at the time :doubt:)

that vid where they test it on a wrx was amazing. I've seen those things set car alarms off!!! and it sounded like a stock impreza with the varex closed

i emailed a seller on ebay and this is what he said
" Thanks for your enquiry. The Twin tip comes in an Oval Barrel and is $405.00. Postage to you = $37.00. Re a Group Buy, certainly I can reduce purchase prices depending on the number ordered. Because the prices differ on Round or Oval Barrels etc., I would need to know the exact number required, of each, and whether 2.5'' inlets, and if Single or Twin tips. I would need to know these details so I could give you the best discounts. Regards, Paul."
hope this helps some people out

Chisholm,
What's the exhaust note like compared to your previous Magnaflow set up?
On open I find the Varex a bit louder at WOT, but actually a bit less droney at low rpms compared to the Magnaflow. Also the note is different, I'd say the magnaflow sound is deeper/bassier, whereas the Varex has more of a metallic shriek up top, and is a bit higher pitched at low/mid rpms.
I wouldn't say one necessarily sounds better than the other, it comes down to personal preference, your particular exhaust system etc. They are both quality mufflers and give a note most people will tend to like. But for my particular car/system/preferences, I have to say I prefer the Varex sound - but probably mainly just cos it's a bit of a change.

i will get one eventually, when the motor is done in the rada ill put my 3inch system on it, im waiting at the moment because i cant afford to have the POS of the road and the blue oily smoke it belches would clog my new cat and ruin my pipes. But for the record, 3inch from the cat, no mufflers till i get a varex haha the missus would kill me otherwise. Ill get a vid up of the 2.5inch striaght pipe system i put on my bro's inlaws car lastweekend... best sounding futura ive heard.
For the record, 3inch inlet, oval muffler with twin 2-2.25inch tips is the type im after.
For those also interested, there is also a device made by apexi i beleive, called "ecv' its basically the valve part of a varex, that you mount someone in the piping and it does the same thing (only less effective) but they have come down in price (due to age) also an optin for those who already have a full system they dont wanna change.

After I had my timing belt service my car literally sounded like a wrx and that was with just the varex. It lasted probably aobut 1000km then back to it's usual tone as Chrisholm puts it.

quiet expensive for a muffler but after getting it done it was money well spent IMO.
