hey guys im not big on the mechanics of my car but the last two times me and my father in law have done oil changes on my car the oil is only lasting about 5000km till the light comes on saying i need oil and a really loud tick starts emitting from my engine, i don't have an oil leak (parked 99% on my drive way and no oil stains). So can someone help me figure this out. thanks in advance.

To begin with, DO NOT ALLOW THE LEVEL TO DROP TO WHERE THE LIGHT COMES ON
You know you have issues, check the oil on a regular basis and top it up
Few questions, as above is there any smoke noticable?
How many k's has the engine done
What oil are you using?

Doesnt the Oil light indicate a lack of oil pressure rather than a lack of oil itself?
Although I suppose its a little difficult to build oil pressure without any oil.....just thinking out loud really...

Correct - the problem is that when the oil level is that low (to turn on the light) it is probably pumping more air that oil through the engine and bearings can seize very quickly - sometimes when the light comes on it is too late to save the engine. On the 2.6 the rear balance shaft bearing locks up easily under these conditions and spins in the block. Major job to fix. Donno if the V6 has any problems like this. See MadMagna's warning above.

Its done 180k km and there is no blue smoke ive been using penrite Hp10 (i think thats what it is called its a 10-50).
Crawl under your car, look at where the exhaust is.
Is the top of the exhaust header covered in a black substance, and oil/grime just above it?

lol exhaust header? whats that look like?
Under the car you will see the exhaust, follow that up towards the engine. The part that connects to the engine, is the top is this 'wet' with oil?

My TJ started to loose oil as well at about 180k....no leaks so I just kept adding oil as needed....but now @200K there is noticable blue/black smoke coming oout when taking of from the lights. Probably at 180k the smoke wasn't that noticable but it was still burning oil.
