View Full Version : suspension installation
Would anyone in the Sydney area be interested in helping me install new suspension? Obviously I will make it worth your while! Heasmans in Sydenham want around the $350 dollar mark if i supply the parts, includes wheel alignment.
Cheers!

my mechanic did mine $50 bucks a corner (mates rates) i can get in touch with him if you like, he wont be back for 2 weeks though... get some new bumpstops for the fronts too!
Personally, just go to Heasmans.
They are a damn good shop, saves you slaving away, and going to them anyway for a front and rear wheel alignment.
thanks brendan for the offer, need get this done asap because its that bad. Ers, i didnt even think about bump stops or bushes though. . . Could be costly
ok ok, I have already searched the forum. Can i get some opinions before I go ahead and order the new suspension through phillcom.
Boge Shocks or KYB shocks? Boge are $50 more...

KYB's have sold Boge in the past but not for magnas so cant really comment on them, have sold quite a few KYB's for fagnas and other cars and are a good all round shock

Boge all the way mate, far superior to the KYB, they used to be and may still be used in the BMW "M" series and were well known and very popular.
As for the rest, get some Monroe Strut Mates, they go over and completely cover the shafts, will fit Boge with some persuasion as well, they will keep the dust out of the shafts.
If you can afford it, grab yourself some new tops, I believe they are about $120 ea from Mits, they have been in the past available aftermarket but I have not been able to locate them recently when I wanted them
Bump stops, unless totally perished, use the ones you have
thanks very much for the info MM glad to hear that you rate the Boge's as I have just bought them from phillcom. Can I get these munroe strut-mate's from supercheap?
Also, is it absolutely neccessary to get the strut-tops? My car has decided to break at a time when i dont have much spare $$$ floating about so its gonna be a squeeze to even get Heasmans to fit the damn things!
Just phoned back Heasmans to get it booked in for just shock and spring installation, they want $495  Gone up from the $350 I was quoted only 2 days ago
Does anyone know of anywhere around Sydney that can do this for a fairer price?? I really need to get this done soon.

$495 to fit some dampers and springs, hate to think how much these merchants would want to a hard job!!!!
The tops, not essential, I usually do not do them unless they are noisy.
The Strutt Mate can be purchased from most auto shops, monroe web site lists the part number as well

The back is only adjustable for toe only... Just like the front.

There is only Toe Adjustment on both front and rear on TJs. Unless you have after market gear.
Well I got it booked in at Rob's Specialised Steering in Taren Point. Apparently they used to be called Greg Selby suspension who made Sway Bars. Then Whiteline bought the Selby name and trademarks and they went out of business and now run under a different name. Either way the dude sounded like he knew what he was talking about and quoted me $300 to do the whole lot including adjusting my rear sway bar and doing a wheel alignment.
MM, gonna go check out supercheap this afternoon with the Monroe part number :) cheers for the heads up

Why do that when he can get it all fitted for $300 with an alignment?
I would most likely **** it up badly, and since no one has offered to help I won't even begin to try this. I would also need to borrow/buy new axle stands and a better jack since mine are too small to lift the car much. The 300 includes a 60 buck wheel alignment, and peace of mind that I am not going to kill myself alongwith my other half when I plough down an embankment with collapsed shocks

By  im assuming you think what I said is stupid, not everyone has a spare $300 lying around and some people actually enjoy learning how too do new things on their cars, I know I tick both boxes.
It was only a suggestion.
ts3.0, I wholeheartedly agree with you on both counts. I barely have $300 lying around for this kind of crap, but I depend on my car badly as public transport where i live is not good. If i broke something big I would be without my car for a while which would be bad. This way, I know I will get my car back after just a single day

Mate, If you have not done springs before, you should not do them unless you have someone in the know with you.
Springs are one of the most deadliest jobs you can do on a car, the built up potential in a compressed springs is amazing.
To the OP, spend the $300 as near $100 of this is for the wheel allignment alone as they will do front and rear.
