Just wondering if anyones ever had any luck getting service history on a car, as mine didnt come with the books.
Do Mitsubishi Aust. keep records that they may (probly won't) hand out?

I had the same issue, no owners book, luckily there was a service sticker on the windscreen from the dealer that sold the car new ad serviced it and also other crap from them in the folder, gave them a call, quoted the old NSW rego and they sent me the service history.

I had the books but I wanted to know the details of each service. The dealer said that they will not release last service information as to not breach the privacy policy.. strange? its not like i am going to stalk the previous owner, as I was just after service details.

The privacy laws are there for a reason, and no by law they cannot provide any information to you or risk an 8 digit fine/ prisonment

The problem you have is the car could've been serviced anywhere. Unfortunately when you buy a car, if it doesn't have the service history or the books, then it's your problem. If a locally made car doesn't have the books I always get worried.

The glovebox folder in mine had all the previous owners details anyways, and the dealer just sent me like a printout from their system stating date of service and what was done etc.

i dont understand why its got anything to do with privacy, you dont want the other peoples details, you just want to know the proper history of your car, and thats for obvious reasons
you'd think it'd sorta even be like your right to know about your cars history

What reason?? I don't see any reason to justify with holding service information. It should be the OWNER of the vehicles right to this info not just the purchaser.
And i don't know where the car was serviced, maybe if i call the nearest dealer from where i purchsed the car and see if they have a record on this car.
At a rough guess its privacy laws due to it being a financial transaction undertaken by the previous owner and the dealership.
