Hi everyone, my car has done 220,000 & one side at the front seems to be sitting lower then the other, its got stock suspension. Shocks were never changed before. Just wondering whats causing it, springs, shocks or both? Ive never noticed it untill i put ralliart front bar with wheel flares, after that i would regulary scrape the flare with my tyre only on one side (passenger). Flares seem to be sitting normally, i.e they are both lined up (so one is NOT lower then the other). Any ideas?
Thanks
if you are parked up and the parking brake is loaded up, the car will seem to lean a bit as the handbrake is only on one rear wheel. If it feels like its leaning whilst just stationary at lights, it might well be time for new shocks. Thats the case for me at the moment :(

220K on one set of shocks? Yes, change them!

AFAIK stuffed shocks shouldn't affect ride height. The springs are what hold the car up, the shocks simply control the oscillations in the spring.
With that many km's it's almost certain that your shocks are stuffed and your springs are sagging/fatigued, change them both if you are going to hang onto the car for a while IMO.

My fiances old Lancer had stuffed shocks and it sagged in the rear left, funnily enough that shock when off the car would compress with your hands, and not come back.

Dampers do not have any effect on ride height at all.
They dampen the spring rate only, thus why they are actually called dampers not shocks. A shock absorber is what you find on a motor bike for instance where the spring and the damper are combined.
After your mileage you will most certainly need new dampers on the car, if you are getting lowered make sure that the place resets your rear lower control arm bush, to do this they undo the big nut, put weight on the vehicle and re torque

Can I ask what happens if this is not done.

maybe causes u to crash cause ur car handles like a piece of ****....
and then begines to wear out other parts of the suspension which are more expensive to fix.

something to do with the camber angle or something?
or maybe to take away the added stress on the wheel hub?

Oh yes, i got quoted for monroe sport gt shocks 140 each for front, can anyone comment on suitability of those for lovell lows?

In that case it wasn't the spring sagging, but the shock holding the spring partially compressed, due to the shock's rebound not functioning, and gettin stuck.
So yes you are right, a stuffed shock CAN cause 'sagged' ride height, if it's not completeing it's rebound stroke for some reason (e.g the shock is stuck partially 'compressed'). Though in most cases abonrmal low ride height is due to sagging/fatigued springs, AFAIK.

Should be a decent match. Generally budget 'sport' shocks are valved roughly to work with common off-the-shelf springs (say 20-50% over factory).
