i was discussing CAI systems with KJ_GTV tonight and i decided to come to the greater public with a quest, to create a proper cai system for 1st gen magnas, maybe you could sell them in the AM store, anyway, i emailed RPW and they concured to the fact that magnas have MAF and MAS sensors and for the TP (or maybe all 1st gens, dunno) its in the housing the filter is in, ive seen it too  , anyway since thats there you cant really do much cause it needs this special balance to do something right and keep the engine idleing properly and mixing fuel right or something inbetween that, now some smart guy should play around with his first gen or maybe already have working knowledge how to make a CAI that wont screw the way the car runs and get the full potential out of a CAI for the 1st gens.

well, as i see it, there is 3 things we can do

1) get one of the k&n oval filters and sheild it and run cold air too it

2) the existing box, cut a hole in it and run some tubes coming from different places into it

and im not sure if this is possible

3) change over to a panel filter

just some of the ideas i have had, i been thinking about it for a while just havent gotten to it yet, oh and nick, i hate you

i still want someone to develop an affordable CAI steup for the 3rd generation magnas. I mean you can purchase the K&N CAI but your lookin at just under $500 and that doesnt include the filter, someone develop an affordable and successful one!!!!!

what i mean:

i have piping that relocates my POD filters to the front bumper. using flexi pipes it does a bloody good job.
you need to define what a "sucessful" intake is? cos mine works very well, but might not be your type of "sucessful" design :)

the 3rd gen have a CAI stock from the factory, and without a lot of sharp angle bends. to make it a bit more effective u probably only need to insulate between the radiator and the scoop mouth. silver backed fireproof ceiling insulation should be good, also can take off or make hole in the front plastic panel between radiator and grill to get more air.

:doubt: this was ment for 1st gens... aparantly moving or changing to a different filter, like pod or panel or whatever alters whatever the stock filter does and screws with your ecu or something, i forget what i read, but its not good NOT get that effect cause your car doesnt run right

yeh i wanted to do that on my 2nd gen for a while coz the intake on those is just plain crap. trying to suck in air through the headlight, i mean seriously. My idea was to change over to a panel filter and then put in some better tubing to get the air in from inside the bumper so its a bit cooler than engine air and if angled right you could get some forced induction when moving. Not much but itd be something to play around with.

I'm going to wack a pod on my second gen when I get time and put a hole in the bonnet above it. Theres my CAI all done, no piping headf...ks, etc.

It'll look shmick - just need time.
