Well my insurance claim for my car has been all finalised and such.. as some of you guys may remember i smashed my TS up about 3 weeks ago..
my insurance company decided to write my car off  because in their words "it was an economical write off" so i had an assessor come out the other day and he valued my car at $2372 so i was happy with that considering that the car only cost me $1800
my excess is what really got me, it was $1400 because im under 21 and i haven't been driving for over 2 years. so they took my excess off my payout, that left me with $972 which Im not happy about but it will have to do i guess.
i was surprised that they didn't make me pay for the rest of the policy (the three months i had left on the contract) so that was a slight bonus
so atm im stuck without a car, so i have to rely opon the public transport system once again whichn totally sucks because during summer you get burnt waiting for the bus... and then during winter yeah get bloody wet from the rain!
and i just realised IM NOT A MAGNA DRIVER ANY MORE!!!(its not a good thing)   .... am i still allowed here?:( haha

sucks man, one minute your 'woohoo I'm $500 ahead' then its like 'oops less the excess, leaves me with??'.
seems a weird number for them to come up with though - $2372.00 I guess it is worked out as a percentage of something or other, the guy surely can't stand there, look at your car and go 'yep, that's $2372 worth right there'

Mate, looking at the damage, the support panel looks minor and the guard/bonnet etc is redily available from any wrecker for next to nothing.
Did you ask how much if you kept the wreck? You could have a basic repair done for next to nothing if you did not care about colour and you may have even found matching colour panels as well.
At least you would have been on the road still.
I have seen a lot worse than that patched up to get someone by.

TFer: i know its a really weird number i actulally laughed when she said it on the phone.. so i asked why.. and its because they take into account all the repairs/servicing that ive done to it.
gibbets: well im not gonna do that because 1. im under 18 and 2. i dont like those chances
Madmagna: i know it would have been easy to replace and what not but i would have cost me (i think they said) 1500 to buy it back.. so whatever and i always wanted a 3rd gen
well atm the moment ive got like $2500 and im gonna save up to around $5000 which will take a couple of months due to me being a student and all... so its looks like i just have to wait OR does anyone know a place that will do loans for people under 18... even though its illegal
EDIT, im not 18 i was saying im UNDER 18 haha forgot to write it

Good luck getting a loan... How far away from 18?
Got a full time job?
Btw, budget about 7k for a decent 3rd gen (TJ Sports with decent kms, or VRX with high kms).

Mate, think about it, $1500 to buy it back, they gave you $900 odd, would have been better telling them to not worry about the claim, no record on your insurance history and a car to drive until you get your third gen

well if i told em not to worry about it... i would be up for repair the brand spanking two week old honda i hit hahaha and thats not cool

Casino term.
Yeah I dunno. I would buy a car you can afford. Right now seems you can afford a 2nd gen again. Don't buy a car that you will need to pay off. Cars are a privilege not a right, so as long as your in something thats what matters.
$900 will still buy you a 2nd gen.
Just sucks going through the whole process again. But think about it, its either you drive again, or you catch the bus for 10 months while you save up for a 3rd gen? I know what I'd do, and that's buy another car.
Sad news but was rather predictable.
As for getting a loan, get a loan you can afford. My loan of 7K was paid off in 9months, bank wasnt happy - but I was lol Personally loans on cars suck, you see however much cash each week dissapear and its rather annoying tbh.

For $2500 you'll be hard pressed finding a car "worth the money" and that has nothing wrong with it.
Keep an eye out for a KS verada.

haha this one i just saw on Carsales.... haha i would never touch it lol

but thats the plan just keep saving.. i only really need to go to school and work which isn't bad without a car.. but the only problem is that i cant go anywhere else that i want to.. its really annoying having the plan exactly what time to go to a plan then you have to leave because its the "last" bus
Personally, since you dont *need* a car, save a bit extra.
Cars around $2500 from my experience are $2500 for a reason, they are old and have seen their fair share of roads. All need some sort of repairs, brakes, suspension, oil leaks, the usual things.
Once you look at cars around the $5000 bracket, you start getting something a bit better, bit newer, lower km, and less trouble. Still needs some TLC, but not nearly as much.
Something like this is not bad -

Indeed. If I were looking to do a DOHC conversion again this is just too good to pass up.
Piss off that terrible auto for a manual and put a new ECU in there and you will have a very very nice car.
Shame though.

Even with the auto and factory ECU in there it's a great car. Certainly different but one of the nicer Second Gens out there.
Kills me every time I see it, then realise i'm on a first year apprentices wage.

Yeah I'd be saving up and buying something a bit better when you can. I mean a few weeks ago I picked up an 02 TJ S1.5 Advance for my sister with 140000kms on the clock for under $6k and it's a real beauty. 17" wheels, nice spoiler, climate control, dual airbags, and in really good nick.
