My mum just got her TF back from a service its done about 160,000 kays. the guy said the engine was leaking oil, he said it was a common problem with the V6's i wouldnt have a clue but it cant be to bad cause i have never noticed a patch of oil when the car has been parked somewhere. but if it is leaking where have the engines been known to leak from any help would be great. how much would be the worst case scenario for the oil leak cost. He also said there was a hole in one of the mufflers what are the stock mufflers worth?

The magna's engines are generally pretty well put together but there are minor items.
I do know that the valve cover gaskets can be known to leak oil. It usually thickens though which is why it doesn't leak onto the ground. Cost wise there are 2 that need to be replaced, 1 front 1 rear. The front is easy to get too but the rear gasket is a bit cramped for room. Worst case scenario, your greatest expense is labour, so cost wise you should be able to get them both replaced for around the $150 mark...i think.
As for a mechanic, my gf has an uncle in Adelaide who runs a mechanical shop. Can't remember the name of the business off the top of my head but i'll find out if you want. He's not in the city though...he's more towards Mawson Lakes past Gepps Cross.

With the rear rocker cover gasket, if a good mechanic can not have the inlet manifold removed in about 15 mins he needs to find a new trade.
The known gaskets are cam seals, rocker cover. there are a few others that can also leak however are rare, as said these engines are put together fairly well.

we took it to this place and they rang and said they couldnt see anything but the trans oil was real dirty and they will give a service to the trans then when we picked it up on the report they gave back they wrote on it engine leaking oil. what useless pricks. the trans was due for a service when the was due for its next service so i suppose we got that out the way but it still leaking oil. its booked in onday morn at this other place. hopefully it will get fixed.
