well it apears i have a busted rear engine mount, well not really busted but the area around the bolt has collasped or something
went in to my dealer this arvo to get a couple of things looked at because i was told they were fixed when the car was in for a service and they werent done :doubt:
so they got the workshop supervisor to come out and have alook of the car
i can tell you that this guy knew his stuff about the car, seeing as he has one similar to mine ;)
told me that it was a common fault in the rear mount which was causing the engine to rattle and for the car to shudder under idle
he told me a way to fix the problem, he said to remove the bolt in the mount then to drill it out so that the bolt moves freely in the hole while loose
now my question is, does the motor need to be supported to take the bolt out?
and seeing as its next to the tranny, is it ok to put a jack under it to support the engine?
well be doing this on sunday to see if it fixes the problem :)

he also found that the throttle body had a air leak in it which lead him to believe the gasket was stuffed, seen as thats where it was coming from plus it been there for awhile now since i replace the throttle body
so i grab a new one and for only 2 bucks, its no big lose if it works or not :)
thanks rob

Yes you will have to support the motor while taking the bolt out. Normally a jack is used under the sump with a large block of wood to spread the load. You'll have to put the car on stands as well or the pressure won't come of the mount - you'll just jack the car up (ask me how I know).

This plan of drilling out the hole for the bolt seems a bit strange/not recommended. I wonder what other members think?

Found reading the post a little hard???

You do not drill out mounts etc, the new mount is not that hard to install, is a little bit of a bugger to get to but not all that bad lol

so what the hell does this mean?

its not really drilling it out its cleaning the crap in the hole thats already there
the mount itself is still fine, might just take it out for a closer look see
i've read that the engine doesnt need to be supported when taken this mount out, but have been told it does
i always thought that the engine had to be supported in away when playing with the mounts

if you relook at my post you'll see that im talking about the gasket for the throttle body
i ment if the new gasket stops the leak or not, which it should

My rear engine mount shat itself recently as well. Mechanic put in a new one (got a poly one from Megatron $110 delivered). Pretty sure mechanic jacked up the engine to take the load off the mount in order to replace it.

Correct, or else the engine's weight will be on the mount.
After your last fiasco Mr_Roberto are you keen to DIY this yourself aswell?

the last fiasco was from my own stupidity
managed to fix that no worries (well with the help of madmagna)
it went back together fine and the other problems i was having wasnt engine related, just things i've forgotten to do
apart from all that the engine was running alittle rough aswell as the idle, dealer reset the idle and the engine was running fine again
i also noticed that the was a rattling noise coming from somewhere, thought it was my exhaust got a couple things replaced and it was still there
then noticed the engine was shaking alot causing the exhaust to vibrate like crazy but also cause a rattling noise
plus engine mounts are not that hard to replace, this ones just a bitch to get into :doubt:

ok so i know that i have to put the car on stands then use the jack to support and raise the engine to take the weight off the mount
now is it safe to support the engine by the gearbox? even if i use abit of timber?
or is there another spot that is much more safer to jack from?
i'll be taking out the mount tomorrow to inspect it for damage, then replace it if need be
might replace it with a better one as i'll be doing abit of engine work soon

I just did the rear mount in my TS this morning by jacking under the sump. It seems to be the point of balance. Had to jack up about 20mm or so.

Under the sump is the way to go, just don't jack to much or you'll bend it.

You'll probably need to use a 600mm extension bar to undo the bolts...

dont think the sump is the right place to jack off in my case
seems abit far from the mount itself, but who knows you may be right

i thought the same thing but it worked. see waht your manual says.

manual doesnt really say where to put the jack
just says: Raise the engine and transmission assembly to a position where the weight is removed from the insulator
and only shows the removal of the drivers side mount

dont really wanna leave this to the dealer as it'll end up costing me like 250+ bucks to have one replaced

There are some motor mount changing videos on youtube. helped me out.

well upon looking further into the workshop manual i found the mount i was after
its the engine roll stopper
now upon having a closer look at the mount and feeling it the mount doesnt appear to have any splits in it
i will pull it out to have a closer look at it just to see if its damaged or not
mount doesnt look to hard to remove but theres much much space down there lol

I usually stick my camera down there first and take some pics. That's how i found out the mount needed replacing.
