My TJ still has 1 month left on its used car warranty and I am getting my moneys worth.. told them the rear rocker cover needed doing and they fixed it.. but I also said the middle spark plug tube wasn't pushed down enough and a trickle of oil was dripping off either end of the cover.

I get it back today, and blow me, they did the rocker cover, but they didn't push any of the spark plug tubes down all the way, so there is a 5mm gap or so on all the back bank

My question is, is it important they are pushed all the way down? Not seeing the tube seals that go in the rocker cover I can only assume that they keep the majority of the oil in, but the outer cap keeps anything else is, anm I correct?

middle plug on my front bank splurged a dribble of oil and i thought something was seriously wrong, turns out the socket wasn't pushed all the way in like yours

i dont know these engines back to front but i would assume if oil is escaping into the plug well then the o-ring that goes between the head and the rockercover is missing/broken or not sealing like it should. I very much doubt the plug lead caps are designed to keep oil in. Keeping oil and dust out of the sparkplug well is more likely. If oil is coming out, something is NOT right.

If you are getting oil leaks from the spark plugs you will most likely need to repalce the spark tube seals. They cost about $15 each from Mitsu. All 6 were done on my car a few weeks ago as a couple of them were leaking.

Nah mechanic did it when he replaced the rear rocker cover gasket when he was strapping the blower back on

To begin with, the plug leads do not seal the oil, there are seals inside the rocker cover that go hard and leak

Not pushing the leads all the way down is not a big issue as once they have soaked in oil for a while, they tend to swell up and are damn hard to push down.

If they bother you, pop them down if you can, of not, just leave them be
